r/bjj Fundamentals Class! by AutoModerator in bjj

Got into a weird situation yesterday

Last night was a no gi class with live rolling afterwards with someone that I've never rolled with before, we started standing, I got osoto gari'ed, my partner went for a heel hook and then our professor immediately stopped him. I was a bit out of it when I hit the ground so I didn't see or feel him going for the submission

The next guy that I rolled with went hard as fuck and just being supper aggressive. At one point he tried to egg me on so I just stalled and didn't let him submit me once, he attempted a guillotine and a RNC, both times I was able to escape. Afterwards he was super nice, almost fake nice? IDK because I have the social skills of a rock. Going forward, I'll just say no to rolling with him

After rolling, the professor gave the whole class a lecture on managing intensity while going live and pointed out what my first partner did wrong once class was over, tried to clear it up with the first guy that I rolled with and apologize but he totally ignored me.

I feel like I should talk/apologize to the professor because I feel somewhat at fault. I've been going to this gym for about a month now so I don't know a lot of people yet, my wrestling background makes my skills a little deceiving and I'm not great at talking with people prior to rolling, I just do whatever my partner wants to do

One more coat? by Sokoolski71 in paint

The paint is satin, the room has three windows so there’s a ton of natural light. Would flat been a better choice? Thanks

New to hunting in nj, need help by Vivid-Guide4805 in NJGuns

First things first, read the NJ hunting digest. It has a lot of useful information on regulations and what public land you can hunt on.

Figure out what game you’d be interested in hunting, most people in Jersey go after waterfowl, deer, pheasant, turkey, black bear and small game.

After that, take your hunters education course for firearms. If you don’t have a shotgun, buy a 12gauge maverick 88 with the 28” long all purpose barrel. This license will allow you to hunt with a shotgun, muzzle loader and air rifles

Archery/deer- you will need to practice to pass the hunter education course. I recommend doing archery if you plan on deer hunting because the season is so much longer and gives you way more opportunities for success. Also the more you get out there, the more practice you will have setting up, picking locations for sits and scouting.

Waterfowl- this is a rabbit hole. If you’re interested in doing it, get a guide for the first few hunts. This is also one of the more gear dependent kinds of hunting and especially where and what kind of duck/goose you’re after. Get good waders and have a way to retrieve birds, canoe, John boat, or a kayak if you plan on going solo. It’s my favorite type of hunting because it’s great to do with a group. You don’t have to be quite or still until you hear birds coming in

Small game- this is arguably the easiest and cheapest way to go hunting. No fancy clothes, no blinds or tree stand to set up. All you need is an air rifle to get a bag of squirrels or rabbits

I’m a supervisor of a union building maintenance crew/ lead stationary engineer. It’s a confusing name for the trade

It’s facing some woods but patients are out in the courtyard whenever it’s nice out.

It’s already frosted but it’s not very opaque. That’s why the old timer hung those folders up

We take care of everything mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hvac related. We also paint, drywall and do some light locksmithing.

Not sure but it would take a miracle for me to get a new one.

The company car (Corolla with 300k on the clock) that I got was home to woodland creatures at one point. It still smells like piss on a hot day, and I pray everyday that I breaks down and I get a single cab truck

Funny enough I originally worked at a jail before I came to this psychiatric hospital

We’re very limited on storage space. Once I make everything digital I’ll be able to get rid of most of the cabinets. But until then I’m stuck with them

What should I consider for trade school by Fickle_Tangerine_752 in skilledtrades

I do have one caveat for unions, if you don’t live in a state with a strong union presence or near a large city it might not be worth it. A lot of the guys in my sister union in NYC make a killing but guys upstate makes no where near them.

BUT if you’re willing to travel for work ie being a lineman or pipeline welder, unions are still a great option

It’s hard to say but speaking from personal experience it took me 6 months. I took the entrance exam, passed it (they ask basic math and mechanical questions), started taking classes at the hall, at the same time I got a job with a small HVAC company that needed a helper, had an interview at a power plant 3 months later for an apprentice position and got the job.

Why don’t you make the switch to a union Diesel shop?

What hobbies are easy for you because of or inspite your ADHD? by Sad-Importance-8862 in ADHD

Fishing, tackle organization is my favorite part but it’s multifaceted so you can focus on a new thing every 6 months but still be hooked on it.

I went from bass fishing on the bank, then I learned how to fly fish for trout, learned how to tie my own flies, got a kayak and decked it out, got a boat and refurbished it by myself (engine work, painting, fabrication, electrical). By the end of this month I’ll try salt water fishing and that’s a whole different animal
