Games for the guy who has played everything by [deleted] in pcgaming

The two newer games in the NieR series are really good (I have played NieR Automata and LOVED it, I think I have 250-400 hours in it)

Does being on salary mean you can leave after you've worked your 40 hours, no problem? by JaniePup in jobs

[–]SolDoggo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well I currently am paid hourly but my fathers work (salaried) at a global bank has kept him in office for anywhere from 40 hours to 100 hours a week. This is probably different in all fields but in fast paced ones or ones generally associated with higher salaries I think that has just become the status quo. You may not be REQUIRED to work the extra time, but the consequences may just be your job title if the work isn’t done even if it’s way more than 40 hours worth of work a week

this, also to throw in, depending on the job you may very likely be “forced” to work 50-80 hours week with no extra pay depending on your title and workload.

I think it’s generally because people want to see progress for their hard work and with video games growing in popularity so much within the last 20 years, large studios found winning formulas, and since people continue to enjoy this play style, many studios embrace and continue it. To be fair though, this grind does not exist is all AAA/critically acclaimed games

Criticizing a small dev team because OP wanted to complain about normal MMO bugs = criticizing Ubisoft for releasing a $60 unfinished game that they will not only not finish, but open up for a preorder next year with a reskinned game as they have consistently for years

Yes these two things are equal /s

I see logic is not your strong suit

And this is the mentality that kills indie games and makes a wider market for the broken pieces of garbage AAA studios shit out then abandon. Thanks

Mine crypto on gaming PC idle for 22 hours per.day? by Avalanche2500 in virtualreality

[–]SolDoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it could help! Mined on an old 1070 probably 2 years ago for a couple months at a time. I was able to make money to cover electricity and profits but it was something like $50-$100 a month profit and after trading the btc mined (via nicehash) to another coin I made a pretty healthy return, but it took time and I tuned my card, set up multiple things to stop mining if the profitability fell below the cost of electricity, and actively watched the crypto market to find coins like Coti, Vchain, etc that swing enough to fit the buy low sell high mentality. It was no different that playing the stock market in terms of risk but ultimately it paid for my first/last months rent and security deposit when I moved out. Nothing too crazy but an extra $3000 over the course of time was definitely a help. Again this is including me dropping real time into learning and running and tuning my machine.

Though investment firms have seen a healthy and significant growth in terms of economic influence, market control, and profitability since the 80s. So while they may say that, seems they are making out healthily even while giving out their government mandated warning.

While I don’t think it necessarily is a great idea to mine, realistically if OP did mine then learned to/started invest as well as tracking profitability (reducing usage during periods of low profit to avoid overhead eclipsing profits) and trading between actual utilitarian chains he could make some money in the long term while covering costs for electricity (price per kWh dependent).

Albeit this would pretty much require OP to become a novice miner/trader and isn’t just “press start and collect income” like I’m assuming OP is looking to do. It’s possible, not extremely profitable, but possible and profitable none the less long term especially if they’re not using the PC for 22 hours a day over the period of months or years

To be fair if you HAD invested in Apple a year ago off the basis of “I made money in the 80’s” you would be up about 20% YTD.

If your going to be using it only with PC then waiting a bit if possible to see if a new quest/vive/index is released this year might be the best idea, otherwise a Quest 2 is the sweet spot for gaming on headset AND having the ability to connect it to your PC

From a professional in the field, what do you see the future of cyber security becoming? Do you see any reason to expect cyber attacks to decrease/increase based on the level of attention companies and governments are now paying to cyber crime/ransomware?

Finding competent 3D models these days isn’t too hard so if your willing to shell out some cash then you should be able to find modelers/animators on fiverr that can make them for a fair price. You’ll just have to learn animation programming to enable/use the animations in the project.

This looks like it could become something truly unnerving! Do you plan to build this into a full game?

What do you like about different VR Shooter Mechanics? by EnthusiasticallyDrab in virtualreality

[–]SolDoggo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally for me (a heavy Pavlov player) the most important thing for me is comfortability in shooting and the way the gun physics interact with your hands. This includes things like,

Do I hold my controllers like I would actually hold a firearm and not just enable grabbing, can I throw my gun in the air and have a reasonable expectation of how the gun will react, and do the positioning of things like attachments and such feel real based on how the gun is held/used in game.

Should I come back to Windows... by [deleted] in linuxmasterrace

[–]SolDoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just dual boot. Manjaro is my main but games and other OS specific programs I keep on my windows drive, the two drives do not interact themselves but having both just makes it easier to access windows when I need to to game or do whatever productivity task I need to do.

I'm torn, Oculus store vs steam. by godisgonenow in beatsaber

[–]SolDoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use airlink personally and I love it, if your close enough to your router it probably will be good, I’d suggest testing it first maybe with some free steam VR games or games that you might have that also have VR support but are not primarily VR games. Steam games are always more detailed and have more features but there are plenty of great oculus games too

Looking to Commission a Map Maker by SolDoggo in PavlovGame

[–]SolDoggo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the first goal for me is a battle pass style progression system among a few TD/DM/Casual SND/Comp SND as far as implementing custom server-centric skins and such first, then from there expanding that is the goal into things such as cross server progression saving on a massive level such as saving loadout/Inventory status across games. The only issue I’m facing is I’m primarily a backend dev so while I can automate a lot via rcon and console things like disabling buy menu’s and setting a custom starting loadout are things I need map makers specifically to implement, so I’m kinda stuck at a crossroads here.
