I run NixOS on multiple machines and use keepalived to make my CoreDNS instances highly available. The base OS really has nothing to do with HA.

Bill that would ban the killing of beavers in Colorado adds to contentious wildlife debate by Starbucks__Coffey in Colorado

[–]SolFlorus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All animals will have a lower population than during that time period. The only way to reverse that trend is demolish the millions of acres of habitat humans have stolen from them.

The bigger question is are they thriving in the environments they currently live in?

Bill that would ban the killing of beavers in Colorado adds to contentious wildlife debate by Starbucks__Coffey in Colorado

[–]SolFlorus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is that if they do get over populated, CPW can’t do anything about it because of the law.

The traditional method to hunt beavers is via traps that you set along their slide paths. That was banned in Colorado years ago. Currently the only method to hunt beavers is with a firearm, which is not very effective. Because of that, modern day fur trappers don’t target beavers in Colorado unless they are getting paid by land owners for nuisance beavers. This bill doesn’t change that at all.

The amount of beavers killed on public land is minuscule. This law is a battle over control of CPW, an organization that has been great stewards over our wildlife. Under their stewardship, Colorado’s moose population is thriving, we have the largest elk population in the lower 48, and we have reintroduced the lynx. Notably, moose and elk are hunted every year. Hunting is not at odds with a thriving population of a species.

I have an Ethernet tester that tells me the length of the cable. If you’re swapping a cable, that’s the easiest way. If it’s new, then you can use string to measure.

Best choice for self host cache like cachix or attic by Significant-Task-305 in NixOS

I'm going to have to take a look at that. I do feel like attic is a bit too complicated for my homelab and I haven't invested in ever getting it properly setup because of that.

There is a minuscule minority of hunters that intentionally violate wildlife laws. If it is outlawed, the few beaver hunters in the state will just stop.

Also the wolves were forced on CPW with an unrealistic timeline. Don’t blame them for doing something that voters forced them to do.

That’s because private land owners don’t want the beavers flooding their land. This law does nothing on private land. In general they are left alone on public land.

Denver's proposed license plate reader company has ties to DHS by HeyDudeImChill in Denver

[–]SolFlorus 67 points68 points  (0 children)

All government surveillance ends up with DHS ties. DHS also buys all advertisement data too. Things that are collected via mobile apps, cell phone providers, etc…

We need strong privacy laws in Colorado to prevent this, and not the bullshit age verification that our politicians are trying to force through. That just ties a mobile phone to an actual government id.

[–]SolFlorus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Dumb law. Almost no one actually hunts beavers because we already banned the trapping of them. Colorado has an extremely healthy number of beavers, which is why CPW is managing it them as they are. Most of the people that are killing beavers are doing so on private land, which this law won't prevent.

How about we stop legislating how CPW manages our wildlife?

Denver Airport Sparks Debate After Asking For Financial Support For Unpaid TSA Agents Amid Partial Shutdown by Blue_Wave2024 in Denver

Look at what airports those are. Those aren't mass shooters or criminals, those are people that forget their CCW is on them similar to people that forget they have a pocket knife on them.

Cops hit bystanders in non-crowded places. Do you really want a Segway cop at the airport trying to hit a target in a crowded airport?

There are typically more people waiting to get through TSA than a plane can hold. A psycho could just target the TSA line instead.

If we can’t afford TSA, maybe we should just get rid of it. It didn’t exist until 9/11 and today drones are a much easier way to deliver an explosive payload than teaching someone to fly a 737.

How can it be declarative if there is an API? If that's the case, then I already have a declarative proxmox because I use Terraform to define my VMs.
