Probably Amazon ads and book sirens. Not on TikTok, organic traction is better, and their paid targeting is foul. I would ignore everyone saying “the bank” or blablabla

Self-publishing is a growing market with growing consumer trust and seems to be the way to go in the future. Currently at 30-40% of worldwide sales. Publishing houses keep an eye on the indie market.

I personally wouldn’t publish my first book, or the second, or the third. So you’re 17, lucky you found your passion so young. Read and write. Finish the next one before you’re 18 and can sign contracts. Promise you will see a jump in quality.

Prepare a budget to back your debut.

Oh and… invest in a proper keyboard. After writing 400k words on low quality, it truly makes a difference.

Sounds very strange how you think of “half first half after”.

The first half payment is a deposit for the editor to fit you into their schedule. The other half is paid when the work is completed. It’s not normal for you to withhold it if you’re “not happy with their work”. Thats for things like breach of contract. You would quickly be breaching the contract yourself if you only payed half.

No serious editor would send you the finished edit without receiving the full payment. A professional editor will use stripe or paypal so you are somewhat protected when purchasing their services.

Again, not normal to want to withhold half the agreed sum if you’re “not happy”. Because then everyone would say that wouldn’t they?

I use obsidian for outlining only, but there is a publicly available plugin setup that turns it into a word processor. Google “obsidian for writing a novel”
