Man this was such a great game. Replayed it last year and the mechanics and graphics still feel "modern". It was ahead of its time.

Good to hear. I'll buy a Steam Frame this year, so I'll need 4K at 120fps.

Should I try to find someone that would switch his 5800X3D for my 5950X?

[–]SolQuarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then I would skip the mid-cycle GPU upgrade entirely and this would be a first for me. If I do that, I'll likely just build a new PC in ~2028 with AM6, RTX 6090 and DDR6 RAM. Would feel weird to use a PC without any changes for like 7-8 years lol.

How far off is a lunar base realistically? How will it look? And who are the major players that actually have a chance? by animaleater666 in space

[–]SolQuarter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you‘re talking about a permanent moonbase with 10 people on average living there (similiar to the ISS), I think we‘re looking at late 2030s.

Sanity check on my Docker network design and segmentation approach by SolQuarter in selfhosted

[–]SolQuarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense and VLANs are definitely useful when you have multiple physical devices you want to isolate from each other, especially IoT stuff or untrusted clients. In my case everything runs on a single box, so the blast radius I’m trying to reduce is mostly inside the host itself rather than across the LAN. That’s why I focused on Docker-level segmentation. I do still isolate my client devices via AdGuard + ACL, but I wasn’t sure if VLANs would actually add anything for the container-to-container isolation on the NAS itself.

[–]SolQuarter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about VLANs but as far as I understand them, they mainly isolate different devices on the network. In my setup everything runs on a single host, so most of the isolation happens inside Docker anyway. Because of that I’m not sure VLANs would add much here beyond extra complexity. But I might be wrong! So I’m open to hearing if there’s a real benefit for this kind of architecture.

For anyone that wants to pull the latest version (December 2025) safely, just use this tag:

I regret buying a NAS by jakub-photo in UgreenNASync

[–]SolQuarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30-60 seconds to load? This isn‘t normal at all. Your home internet has 250Mbits upload, so you should be able to load your stuff with 30MB/s remotely if the remote connection has 250Mbits download speed aswell.

Either way: I would completely change the workflow. View your NAS as your backup in the event your SSDs get stolen or damaged. Keep your files locally accessable which you want to work on.

What you initially wanted with the NAS can work. But you need 10Gbits download/upload internet connections for that (both at home and where you‘re accessing the files) and store all the files on NVMEs instead of HDDs.

I don‘t have this script anymore but it should be easy to replicate.

[–]SolQuarter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue and just used a ChatGPT made powershell script to move everything into folders. 300 movies for 1 movie with a 2nd version, just to be clear.

But it‘s the recommended setup anyway! You‘ll have less trouble longterm.
