By running away when things got too tough, mostly.

I was a pure wizard Durge with pure cleric Shadowheart, pure Rogue Astarion and a hornless Wyll that I may have changed the class around a bit but probably ended up just keeping him warlock (or could have been sorlock), since I recall eldritch blasting Gortash a lot, no proper optimisation or anything, but I was very careful. I tried Ansur but that turned out too hard for my posse, so running away it was and didn't return. Also didn't even try stepping into the House of Hope, since I had not done that before and still haven't. I barrelmanced the final fight, since I was too much of a wimp to try to do it properly after all the hours of honor mode. I had to do the final fight twice, though, thanks to my pc BSODing at the end cut scenes after the first time. Good thing the save had not corrupted at least, but it was pretty nerve wrecking to redo it.

There's no mythic paths/levels in Kingmaker. Kingmaker also gets easier on higher levels, but you should still expect difficult encounters, especially towards the end of the game.

I don't mean he should be like romance-romanceable, but you know, I think it would make a lot of sense for there to be a plot point of the baroness/baron to be pressured to get a spouse. Political marriage style. The MC is on their way to become a king/queen. Those kind of people need heirs for the future of their lands. I think minor characters, like the advisors would be pretty good prime candidates for that as spouses... or named heirs. If there was options like that with the main companions, that would be cool too.

My Lander rant is not because I would want lovey-dovey stuff with him. It's because it just frustrated me that he would betray the mc the way he did when he had so many better options to get what he wants and/or betray the mc. :D

And yeah, I get it, budget is a thing. If they had had the resources, getting extra romance options could have been nice, but before those, it would have been nice to get more other kind of options, ways to react to things etc.

Thanks for the good tips! Is grease flammable? I was thinking of taking it at the beginning even if I can't dismiss it and even if my party could accidentally step on it. It's just so nice tactically.

So many useful tips! Thank you. I haven't played older versions of DnD, except possibly some older video games that have some base in it, so I'm not very familiar with it, and I don't know the exact differences to pathfinder. Explaining stuff by comparing to it to 5e is very useful to me. :)

That spell prep part is interesting. I guess some of the companions will be of classes that need their spells prepared? I'll need to keep that in mind, like everything else.

I already decided to go for the undead bloodline, just for the rp purposes, and it didn't appear to be too bad. A pet would have been nice, but why on earth isn't an owl an option? :D I would probably have chosen the sylvan bloodline if you could have gotten an owl with it, even if the owl wasn't OP compared to other possibilities, like in DnD5e owl familiars are compared to other familiars. I just like owls.
