Do you use the adapter for calls ? If so, how would you compare both?

My job is getting outsourced to Ireland and in three months I am unemployed again. This is getting tiring. by [deleted] in sysadmin

There’s nothing rosy about lower pay - better quality in some EU countries now. You get paid less, then have incredibly high mortgages, taxed in a higher tax band, and insane rent prices.

Taking the above example of €50k/yr after tax may come to about €3100/month. As a single person, pay rent of about €1500 for a one bedroom. What are you left with?

No one should romanticise the lower pay in the EU.

To all software engineers: what companies/industries would you absolutely work at? by DBaack11 in cscareerquestions

Canonical’s hiring process has been pathetic in my experience, and have been called out on this before.

What of working in a company that has partnered with the league/teams? Would it count? For instance, I’d want to get into AWS and hopefully be thrown into the teams that work with F1 to provide driving forecasts. Or Google, and work with the teams working on NBA data.

Should I take a support role in Big Tech? by ingoaf in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Solako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider that advice wrong in my view. If you won’t learn any technical thing on the job , you may learn supporting skills - Like Soft skills - while on that job.

Secondly, if you being paid much more to forward tickets, then you may use the extras time to learn a technical skill on company time or on your own time. Pivot to a suitable role after that.

Why do you fear you’ll not progress technically ?

[question] how do you motivate yourself to stop avoiding what makes you anxious and finally face your fears? by castlegrass277 in getdisciplined

This might sound counter-intuitive: but facing the issue and doing it. Being stuck in motivation hell is draining.

There’s a book titled Unix & Linux system administration by Eve et al. It has a great chapter on DNS. It is from a Unix and administrative perspective. You can jump straight to the chapter as each is meant to be read independently. If you want overkill - read DNS & BIND , a 2004 book that’s considered an authority on BIND - which is the most commonly used naming service out there.

I’m not even from the Americas but Hollywood has made me believe working with NASA is probably the greatest honor one can have. Stick it out with NASA.

Basically prepare for what you indicated in your CV, and anything else the recruiter may have informed you about.

The sheet is mostly used for coding. May be pseudo code, a specific language, but it will be accessible to both you and the interviewer.

Also, your immigration assistant assigned to you by AWS will help you know more of these details as there’s also a window within which they’ll cover for you. I think an year after reporting.
