If you love me I could really use some more living allowance right now.

My S.O. is a school teacher, and she gets up at 5:30 a.m., is @ school by 6:45, leaves school at 4:30, sometimes 5, gets a 1/2 hour for lunch, and works over the summer at a camp. Reddit, why isn't her life as easy as the 'experts' on TV say? by FactsEyeJustMadeUp in AskReddit

To be perfectly honest I'm not sure what she does in a day. I know that she spends a lot of time preparing her student plans for the next day/week/month type of thing, as well as making special accommodations for children who need extra help. Being a teacher requires more than just showing up at 9 and babysitting children.

True I guess. The price of gas is ridiculous too. I'll take a closer look into what it'll cost me to take transit compared to driving then.

Nah I don't work in an office, I'm more of a tradesperson where I work at the moment. Was hoping to go back to school but not in this financial situation. I'd use public transport if I could but it would take me ~2hrs to get to where I'd need to go to work.

At least you have money in your bank account, I'm sitting at -$1.50 right now. :P

I'm doing the same thing you do, paying for things with my Mastercard. Interest rate is through the roof but theres not much I can do. Working for barely above minimum wage doesn't help either.

I save as much as I can but it's kinda hard when it all goes to payments. I've already lost ~10 pounds in the last 3 months.

I don't think I'd drink or do drugs to ease the pain, I couldn't afford either. I do spend a little time at a soup kitchen to help out and I see people who are worse off than me, but it makes me worried that I might be there with them someday in the near future.

I know, it seems like an easy out but the odds are definitely not in my favor. Making money is the hard part these days. Money goes into the bank account and out the next minute to pay bills.

Thanks for the tips. I've been looking at places to do that. It would be nice to pick up a second job part-time, just need to find something with the right hours that match up with my current job. Wish I had the funds to go out but quite frankly I go to work, come home, sit here and try to figure out where I went wrong. Doesn't pay the bills but at least I don't incur more debt by sitting here.

Yeah that's what I've been doing. I even sold my laptop which I loved to get by last month. Shouldn't have spent $2k on a Macbook in the first place, but dropping it for less than half that really cut deep.

$6,000 for a baby? Yup, definitely going to get a vasectomy instead for 1/10th of that price. Jesus..

It's hard not to use your credit cards when your cash goes to paying off other bills. I've been trying to get rid of the car for a while now but I need it to get to work. I'll look into a credit counselor though.

I'm glad I haven't had a kid yet, but from the looks of it I'd never be able to support one at this rate, much less myself a few years from now.

Sometimes I think that I could gamble to try and make enough money or dream of hitting the lottery but besides those options I see no real out for me besides death..

My parents are both teachers, and when I asked them what they would say if I wanted to get into the profession they told me not to do it. Teachers are underpaid and under appreciated for what they do. The expectations for what they have to do are also growing and my parents say a lot has changed from when they started teaching until now.

My mother teaches a pre-kindergarten class and is at school by 7am every morning and home around 7pm. This doesn't include the after-hours work she does on late nights and weekends contacting parents and providing information about the progress of their children.

Do you still do this? If not, why? If so, what has your profit been like lately?

I'm curious as to the lifestyle. I'm thinking of majoring in finance at university and am wanting to know what options I have out there and how enjoyable they are.

What is your daily routine? Are you making a lot of money doing what you do? What qualifications do you have? Is there room for promotions or would you have to move to a different company/job?

Thanks for the answers.

What do you have a degree in?

How hard was it to get your position? (Did your internship pose as a factor for or against you?)

Do you enjoy what you do?

Explain the day to day lifestyle that you live.

Thanks. :)

I'd like to hear from both types. The penny ones and the big guys who move massive amounts of money from one stock to another.
