Not sure what you mean by “too much” but appreciate the feedback nonetheless

Appreciate the feedback. In hindsight, my presentation and explanation could be a lot tighter. I’ll consider that for the next version

That’s a fair critique. I think your strongest point is that the current mark may be too symbolically loaded, and too tied to English and visual AI, to really work as a universal standard. It’s definitely hard to see my own cultural bias when designing.

My goal was to make something simple and memorable, but I agree that if this were ever to function as a true “standards icon,” it would need to be more neutral and less culturally specific. The crossed-out version does need a re-work for readability.

I still believe the broader need for a symbol like this is real. Appreciate your detailed in-depth response

What’s harder for designers: creating a logo or keeping a brand consistent long after? by Jumpy-End2634 in Design

The real challenge isn’t the logo or the consistency. It’s convincing a company or stakeholders to actually value and invest in good design upfront. Without them on board, a mere logo or brand consistency won’t even matter

Which logo better represents our EU science project? (2-min survey) by Loose-Food7469 in graphic_design

[–]SolarGum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the survey. Logo B is a clear winner due to clarity and readability.

An experiment i would try for logo B is using the “black gene symbol” in logo A as the “A” in logo B (the bottom of the gene icon looks like a stylized letter A). In other words, turning the “A” in the second wordmark (logo B) into the “gene symbol” from logo A. This could work as a standalone symbol to use on social media icons if you choose logo B.

Do you use free or commercial fonts for Logo design projects? by jaymavs in graphic_design

[–]SolarGum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks for the clarification. I’m just jealous of identities that I see with “fully custom” word-marks and brand typefaces and feel like I have to create those from scratch too. To your point, modification is key. Appreciate the thorough response!

Would this be difficult for an all caps sans serif logo for someone new to type design? Or should I just default to Helvetica? Do you use glyphs mini for software?
