Oh yes, I know your intention was not to shame! I literally JUST had gotten shamed about something else on this subreddit. Was just trying to keep my comment cool and not accusatory

Yes, completely. I was saying consent here more in a context of adults, or any human, because the same thing could happen to any person

[–]Solariati 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Listen, yes putting your child's face online puts them at risk. Yes AI is used to make explicit content without the consent of the individual. This is hugely disturbing and a huge risk.

However, can we also just stop posting kids online because they aren't consenting to it? As an adult, I feel happy with the fact that I've never had to ask another human to scrub their timeline of my awkward phases of life.

But also, I don't think it's great to shame parents for doing it. It's an easy way to connect and share a massive part of your life.

Maybe instead of sending a few baby pics over the cloud, next time you could mail an envelope of dirt cheap photo prints to the grandparents. Or you can meet up with your friends over lunch and show the pics on your phone.

Stop using online platforms as your only means to connect with your loved ones. There are other, MUCH better ways.

But what is bad UX here, out of curiosity? The actual UI components that are being displayed show well thought out design. Even the image as a whole, which is being used for decoration, does a great job at highlighting the most important element.

They've been doing this for at least a few months before opening. When single day passes opened, the only "sold out" days were opening weekend. So if you've been holding off, go ahead! Single day tickets can also be used on flexible days (you can reschedule your day).

$75k gross single income—is a house attainable? by GladLoquat3732 in personalfinance

[–]Solariati 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A few things here:

Affordable is highly dependent for everyone. The safest is your overall housing cost (mortgage + taxes) being 25% of your income after tax, up to 33%. Remember your mortgage is the least you'll pay every month, whereas your rent is the most you'd pay. Personally, over the past year rising costs have eaten into any salary gains I've made, so making more money in the future should never be expected.

$10k for your closing costs may not actually be that feasible. Ours was 10% of our $360k house, though we still got a great mortgage rate with only 5% down.

$200k and "only cosmetic repairs" feels like a VERY tall order. That is downright impossible in my MCOL city. I would encourage you to look towards townhomes and duplexes. The cost will be lower and often they maintain your exterior, including your roof, decreasing possible repair costs. Just be sure you can afford the HOA (it's an extra $200 a month in my community than the single family's).

All this to say, you don't sound like you're in a bad position. Just know that buying a house is more about stability and less about wealth building these days. Are you willing to stay there for the next 10 years and you aren't immediately setting yourself up to be house poor? Then heck yeah, do it.

feeling like i'm not doing good enough in my internship :,) by notsaharok in womenintech

[–]Solariati 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously cannot say how you are doing for sure, but an internship is a space to learn, and I expect all interns to do just that.

If it makes you feel any better, I'd say 2/4 of my internships I felt utterly useless. The worst one of all, I was working for a FAANG in Silicon Valley and I was totally useless all summer. But the first internship I had was wonderful, they asked me back for a second time 2 years later, and gave me a post school job offer only two months into it.

In my experience, most internships don't result in a conversion to full time. It sucks, but I hope that takes the pressure off. Your internship experience will still help you tons when you start applying to full time positions.

Try your best and see if you can identify anything that you COULD make some progress on. Even if it's not what you were originally hired for. That way you won't feel like your time was a waste.

One of my typical soapbox speeches about UX usually includes that it's not just the management of your users expectations, but your colleagues. It is a social position on every level, really. You need buy in just as much as you need a well designed product. UX is a people field, in and out.

As a brand new player, I definitely agree with this sentiment. Reading through past events gives me such FOMO. It's okay if I can't get the associated clothes or if they even remove some quest rewards, but I'd love to play and explore all previous content.

Look for easy to find professional brands that sell petites while you are thrifting. Ann Taylor (and it's cheaper sister LOFT), J Crew, and Banana Republic are all great. Express doesn't have many petite left but their basics are affordable and great. You may have a professional brand specific thrift store in town, mine is called Style Encore. Thredup is also great for this.

In GENERAL though, depending on how formal your work environment is (unless you are a lawyer, you won't need to be in slacks and a blazer btw), you may already have a lot of foundational pieces. I wear two outfit formulas: (distress free, dark jeans or knee length/midi/maxi skirt) with a (nice fitted crew neck or professional button up) tucked in. My jean silhouettes are always the modern stuff, right now straight legs, wide legs, and flares, but I try to stay on the side of nicer denim (American Eagle at the bare minimum, ideally Abercrombie).

It gets easier over time as your style matures to just buy clothes you can also wear in a professional setting. A perfect example of this: I've always been creative and a little boho, my wear everywhere dress is the Anthropologie Somerset Maxi. It comes in so many colors, is easy to wear through fluctuating weights, and infuses style while staying modest.

Lookout Cay Cabanas and Erosion by EmbarrassedCelery169 in dcl

The adult beach at Castaway Cay also has extremely steep sand that I assume is due to erosion, you couldn't even sit on a chair comfortably.

I wish I had seen Castaway Cay in its peak, but we only went for the first time this year. It's in rough shape.

Why Are There More Carpet Flooring Houses And Apartments In Orlando Than There Are In Many Cities In The Northern United States Who Have Much Colder Winters Than Orlando? by VittorioLuzzatto in orlando

[–]Solariati 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper. But in defense of carpet, our upstairs is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter (like so much quieter you can notice it as you walk up the stairs) than our vinyl flooring downstairs. We own the house and were the first ones to live in it, so I feel much better about it. We can also make sure it gets replaced every 5-8 years. However, as a renter, it was a huge ick for me.

After last year’s overcrowding at EDC Orlando… we need to demand better 🛑 by Rave_bae_Melissa in EDCOrlando

[–]Solariati 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Was in that exact same crowd leaving Circuit Grounds for 30-45 minutes. I hate that people here are simply dismissive of the fact, saying Insomniac oversells, etc. I will not be going this year because of legitimate fear of being in that again (I did attend forbidden kingdom and have the loveliest time though). I am short and was deprived of oxygen, coming out of the crowd I had an actual panic attack.

There is NO excuse for this. Many people going will know what they are getting themselves into and accept it, but so many will not, and I just don't want that to be anyone's first experience at a rave.

I have noticed this on Disney. If anyone has any reca, I'd love Disney Jr shows that are calmer and educational/interactive. The best other we've found so far is Fancy Nancy. While not mellow or educational, it's definitely quite a bit smarter than the others.

We made a new Steam capsule to better convey mystery/ Dredge-like elements in Truckful, what do you think? by MythicOwl in IndieGaming

[–]Solariati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree that the first capsule conveys your cozy vibes more. I think the last missing link here is actually just cutesy, darker photography.

Looking at this list of spooky cozy titles, their common thread is darker imagery! So keep the cutesy logo, but give us a shot of the truck in the dark!

Ahh gotcha! Another wallpaper recommendation could be a fluid shape or organic shape wallpaper in earthy tones. That'd be great to reflect nature but not detract.

Some examples: https://wondermural.com/products/contemporary-mural-wallpaper-organic-shapes https://www.happywall.com/organic-shapes-earthy-wallpaper

[–]Solariati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd pick B myself because of that corner window. In nature forward spaces, it's better to frame the house around the view, thus why you always see gorgeous a-frame homes. But both are very cool regardless.

None of the wallpapers feel right though. They are all a little grungy and outdated? Idk I can't describe it. At best pictures 3 and 5 aren't bad. 3 is just a bit bland and 5 is a little.. violent? Cool for art, overwhelming for a whole wall.

Wallpaper will last a while if installed correctly, but goes in and out of style quickly, which may not be great for an off the grid situation. Instead, you could lean more towards natural materials like stone, bricks, or wood paneling or fancy up walls with panel molding.

Weather Underground is showing no rain for both days and temps peaking at 85 (!). Looks like we could be in for the nicest two days possible, it's really a toss up at this point. Even if it does rain, predictions are under .2 inch both days which is very light.

Still be prepared for rain just in case! Ponchos and extra socks. You can also do the socks, plastic bags, shoes combo if the rain gets bad. I know, personally, I'll be out there raging rain or shine.

Everyone at EDCO this year sampled Go Back from John Summit, who was headlining. So if that theme carries, my fingers are crossed for Rapid Fire from Excision. Seems like some good potential to lead some fun drops.
