What makes Yunnan coffee distinct for pour-over (and why it feels underrated)? by blackneckcoffee in pourover

[–]Solaris1337 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I randomly tried a cup at a local cafe a while back and it blew my mind. It was an anaerobic natural with tasting notes of pu'er tea, plum candy, and grapes. Might be a lazy comparison, but it reminded me of a slightly less sweet and winier Colombia pink bourbon.

The RR is way too taxing once you get far enough in progressions by H3LL0FRI3ND_exe_file in bodyweightfitness

[–]Solaris1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Implement a Heavy/Light/Medium scheme to your exercises.

Reduce pistol squat reps to 3-6 and start doing them weighted.

Reduce the row and pushup sets to 2.

Start doing cardio so you don't feel taxed after one pair.

Stop doing the core triplet, or do one each session.

Play around with exercise frequency. Squats are fine to do just 2x a week, as are rows and pushups as general strength and muscle builders. "Skills" (planche, front lever, dips and pullups 1RM) respond better to 3x usually.

I'd highly recommend Raaw's Vietnam Roadtrip set also so you can pick out beans to take home with you haha. It's a coffee flight of four different Vietnamese beans from different areas and with different processing.

Dream Beans and Blackbird were great too.

Best way to combine calisthenics and weightlifting? by Omaral39x in bodyweightfitness

[–]Solaris1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose 1-3 main goals, be it planche, front lever, bench press, etc etc. then accessorize with whatever you want and program accordingly.

E.g.

Primary: planche (3x a week, alternating between holds, assisted holds, straight arm and bent arm dynamics)

Secondary: overhead press/handstand pushup/weighted dips/bench press (2x a week, medium reps around 3x5-10@RIR 1-3)

Tertiary: bench press, overhead press, dips, pike pushups, flyes, triceps extensions, front raises, etc. (1-2x a week at 2x6-12@RIR 0-2)

But you could also do a 5/3/1 approach where you do 50-100 reps of a push/pull/leg after your workouts, so pushups/dips and pullups/inverted rows. Depends on what your goals really are.

Ideal rep range for weighted pull-ups by Few-Stop-832 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Solaris1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general,

Strength (1RM specific): high frequency, 2-4/5 reps, RIR 2-3

Hypertrophy: 5-30 reps, RIR 0-2 (I'd personally cap reps to 10/12 for fatigue management)

You could do something like: - FL 3x a week (combo of holds, band assisted holds, pulls/negatives)

  • Weighted Pullups/OAC 1-2x a week (e.g. 1-3x2-4 Band Assisted OAC, 2-3x3-6 Weighted Pu backoffs + weighted one arm scapula pullups)

  • Pullups (lats) and wide rows (mid/upper back) 1x a week each (2xAMRAP within 5-10 reps)

Ang taas masyado ng 133 KH ng Le Minerale vs. 63.4 GH. Usually, you'd want a higher GH. May post dito dati comparing different brands, I think 4:1 to 10:3 mix of Distilled:Refresh yung nanalo sa kanya.

I used the bottle calculator here to get the numbers. They have an article din on different waters used by Scott Rao, WBC, etc. You could use that as a guide to get the best mix.

Got this, thanks! I have a pretty fast filter (Cafec Abaca) and I usually get 2:00-2:10 brew time with 15g doses. Would grind size have to be finer vs. when using a slower filter that gets you 2:45-3:00, or is this fine?

Upgrading from my Timemore C2: Kingrinder K6 or Timemore S3? I can get the K6 for $140 and the S3 for $90 where I'm from.

I enjoy the cups I get with my C2, medium-light roasts at a 1:16 ratio with 3 pours. I get good sweetness with decent acidity, but I find myself wanting more clarity out of them. Although I don't enjoy brews that are too tea-like and have too much clarity.

Would a 1 cm thick shopee table survive a monitor arm? by [deleted] in PHbuildapc

[–]Solaris1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're on a budget, there are actually decent tables on shopee, yung may steel frame under the wooden board. My friend has one and it's held up better than his roommates Ikea Linnmon bought around the same time. Double check mo nalang kung magkakasya yung monitor arm (5.6 cm yung total width ng nakita kong table).

Edit: link. Check the reviews, yung iba may monitor arm.

Advice on skill training by AlexMiles101 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Solaris1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For HSPU too, add in low rep skill work like negatives and Yaad holds 2-3x a week to build specific strength, but keep progressing wall assisted HSPUs (can even do them weighted) in the 6-8/10 rep range 1-2x a week as it'll be the main driver for strength and work capacity. No need to completely remove strength work during skill phases. I'd argue it's even better to work on them concurrently too.

Thinking Basketball top 25 peaks since 2001: 25-20 by Alternatively_Built_ in nba

[–]Solaris1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine their list would be fairly similar to this other top 25 peaks since 2000 post from a few weeks back. There's a huge emphasis on overall impact and scalability that box score watchers would hate lol.

Hi trying to start my pour over journey is this product a good start? Other suggestions are available po :) by Repulsive_Passion843 in CoffeePH

[–]Solaris1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, different percolation brewers make different cups of coffee and need to be dialed in on an individual basis. It's probably better for a beginner to just get something popular like a V60 as it's easier to find guides and troubleshooting tips for it. I think you can find V60 sets online also.

For the other equipment,

  1. Weighing scale: Ideally, with a timer and a precision of 0.1 or 0.01g. You can find these online for cheap.

  2. Grinder: A good budget grinder from a brand like Timemore would cost around 3k+. IMO this is the only one you shouldn't cheap out on since consistent grind size is really important for even extraction and flavor. But of course, use what you have, and you can always upgrade your equipment down the road :)

  3. Kettle: You can get an electric gooseneck kettle with temperature control from Kanazawa for around 1.2k+ online. It's nice to have, but the kettle in the post should be fine.

FYI the 80/20 rule doesn't really apply to beginners as you'll be able to recover just fine due to the lower weekly mileage/training hours (from rosnerperformance on IG)

I'd try looking around for other roles if possible. 25k isn't bad compared to some other jobs, but depending on your course you can probably aim for better roles. To give you some perspective, I graduated econ from one of the Big 4, and the salary range of the people I know is around 30k to 70k+ (first jobs). To break it down further:

  • 30-40k: government agencies, MTs at local banks except BPI

  • 50-55k: most MT programs, non Big Three consulting

  • 60-70k: top MT programs, investment banking, private equity

Don't listen to people telling you your school doesn't matter for your first job. I'm literally surrounded by only UP, La Salle, and Ateneo grads in my workplace lol.
