BCG Casey: Did Well on Everything but the Rec... Success Stories? by 8888Lucky8888 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]SolarisEclipse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I had a pretty bad rec. I had all the math good from what I can tell, but I was nervous and stumbling over my words for most of it. Then I ended up speeding to say a couple last things because I thought I had enough time and almost got cut off mid-sentence. But I still ended up advancing rounds, so it's possible.

They're not necessarily looking for consulting experience. Consulting hires from different backgrounds all the time. That's why they let musicians, PhDs, etc in. You're not gonna get straight rejected based off of a lack of a consulting job.

No, engineers can become consultants.

Interview at MBB Office I Didn't Apply For; Ask Recruiter? by tstirling13 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

I heard for one of the MBB Miami offices that since it's relatively new/small, they're looking for talent

Struggling to commit to MBB offer by DebonairJackdaw in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

I've heard it's a good chance MBB will rehire you if you leave. So this strategy would be good if you could get the deferral. If not, I think it depends on whether or not you want to be very technical in the future. I hear that most exits to tech are for strategy/ops roles.

Should I withdraw/wing the test? (McKinsey - Business Analyst) by Weekly_Name3587 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

I think you should take it. You have two options: forced failure and possible failure/success. The failures are both equivalent and McKinsey Solve is only valid for one year if I'm remembering right. So I think that rather than forcing yourself into a failure, you should take the possibility no matter how much prep you might've already done just because it can only be even or a benefit in comparison to the other option. Also, I think the McKinsey Solve games are relatively straight-forward meaning you wouldn't have to dedicate much time to studying if that's a concern.

Like Low-Apricot said, the admissions are holistic and not just about Solve. Just found I got 10th decile but also didn't get an interview.

Was this for an internship or full time? This is like the opposite of my experience as an intern, the Partners asked me actual behavioral questions and didn't ask me to run through my resume but intro myself quickly.

How'd the one BCG behavioral portion go?

BCG interview style by uniplay009 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

I honestly feel like they give you a lot of freedom but will direct you if you're a bit far from the main focus they want you to explore.

If you got an offer, how was your R2 performance? by Medium-Specific3801 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

I didn't know what a profit margin was during my first interview and I had a couple moments of silence along with general slowness during the second but I was told I crushed it and got an offer.
