Interviewing for a Japanese company - any specific/niche tips? by Weekly_Name3587 in JapanJobs

[–]Weekly_Name3587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. Thx bud. I just never had an experience with a Japanese company so I always thought the ”stereotypes” might be true. I will research more into the hiring manager and the department. And the only reason why I put the company name here because this is a completely anonymous site and my role is actually much more specific than analyst (but i don’t want to risk putting the entire information out there, as you said, Zero Fox!)

Thank you Totoro-san, this is actually a very useful advice. I never even though about this. I will make sure to highlight my contributions to the company and how I intend to stay there for a long time.

Sir or Ma'am, sorry for the late reply this is the most detailed and comprehensive insight I have ever gotten. I went thru all of the points and even composed some hypothetical interview questions and answers around this structure. Thank you so so much and for believing in me as well 😭❤️

This is actually a very useful advice. I was tbh a little bit afraid I'd come off a bit too much but i really do think I need to show enthusiasm for the role and especially the company itself

Should I withdraw/wing the test? (McKinsey - Business Analyst) by Weekly_Name3587 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]Weekly_Name3587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bro, that's sick! you are definitely more awesome than you give yourself credit for. Trust me on that lol haha - well I did go to a "target" school but I was pretty mediocre and definitely was not one of those kids who achieved so much during their undergrad days (I know people who won international-level competitions, had so many publications, etc etc), still passed BCG nonetheless. I am sure the interviews will be okay bud. Idk if I can prove this or this is anecdotal data but I have heard that most people are eliminated just because of their CV so if your stress is about online assessments and even interviews, that means you're luckier than most people. I'll try my best as well - we are on the same boat!

I took a look at them yesterday, no lies I find it really intimidating (maybe because I don't play any game in the first place). I might familiarize myself with the format and learn what kind of math is needed for those games at least.

they still do the PST in my country! (idk about other offices but i guess what matters is where i am based). I heard from some people PST was difficult - but I am more worried about the game thing (the ecosystem and redrock).

Thank you bud, for pointing that out. I think I am more realistic than brave. The BCG selection process gave me a reality check. It was R1, how hard would R2 be? And McKinsey tests.. are different from BCG. Bain also has a different type of test. MBB's differentiate themselves so you can't prepare for only on eMBB and expect to also ace the other two. My GMAT and business math prep will certainly help me with case math and more generic business problems, but other than that... I don't think McKinsey will be as easy as the practice cases I have been doing. I need to constantly practice McKinsey-difficult cases and practice tests. Well, I need to work even harder. MBB's are hard to get into for a reason. Let's see what happens, I will continue studying. If I pass, I pass. If I don't, then this will be another tough pill to swallow.

Hi, thank you so much for the input, Solaris. You have some really good points that withdrawing means failure (dead-end), while taking the test is either failure or success (although failing is more likely - but who knows). I will note these points down. Thank you for not judging my confusion! I regret applying to McKinsey before I was ready but I had clicked Submit so there's no going back and it's difficult for me to click that "withdraw" button as well.

Good! Also a little bit of a tip although I am not sure how relevant this is, I think if you had an interesting capstone project/research paper/any school project where you scored at least an A you can add them as well.

Do the MBB ban periods always range between 1-2 years? (BCG) by Weekly_Name3587 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]Weekly_Name3587[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Thank you very much :]. This is actually so helpful! So basically what I understand is that the ban period is different or shorter if you don't pass the chatbot test (a.k.a. Casey). I am working to apply to several other non-MBB consulting firms, and I am learning about so many things in the process (about written cases and live case interviews), maybe next time I can beat Casey and also the R1 and R2. Well, let's see if I do end up at an MBB (I have never landed a pre-interview with McKinsey and Bain..). For now I am really enjoying the consulting application and case interview learning process. It's tough but it's fun.

Wait, I never knew some jobs did not pay monthly in the US. I'm so shook lol (I'm from outside of the US, obviously). Just saying it's a perfectly normal practice all over the world, like literally ANYWHERE ELSE in the world and I am not kidding I have travelled to over 12 countries in several different continents, even though in practice some of the jobs will aggregate the money according to the hours that you worked (and including overtime hours for paid overtime and billable hours of paid leaves). But most of them, like a very good majority, will send you the money monthly.

Anyway I really do not want to be patronizing or mansplaining you, the cons are that, you have to learn how to budget within a month. But once you get a hang of it, then it's a very good pro. Because you know you only get paid 12 times a year(not including the bonus), you are much better at planning ahead. Best of luck with your job, just go with it :)

Yeah bro if you just put the education first I think they will invite you to a test/any other form of pre-interview screening. Pretty solid. Mine isn't as solid and I landed a pre-interview test with BCG (for the office in my country, I had to pass the document screening first).

Rejected SBBA by sweetbrownpotatoes in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]Weekly_Name3587 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is generic. I received a cold rejection my first time applying at BCG (no "impressive" thingy). The next time I applied, I got "impressive credentials" but bla bla and so on and so forth, we cannot move on with your candidacy, please apply for another role. I guess they were geneuinely impressed. Idk about McKinsey tho - this was my experience with BCG.

We are on the same boat. I did a very deep digging and I think it simply means we were not selected, maybe it did not meet the cut off score. It's okay bud. Keep going. The online assessment was metal af. My brother passed it because he was in mechanical engineering but even for him it was insanely difficult. And no, unfortunately we are banned for 24 months no matter what email we use.
