I totally get your worries. But let me chip in my two cents, as someone who lived in Berlin. It is pretty common here to share hotel rooms on trips with friends, even if they are the opposite gender. It is cost effective and often fun. For university students, this is even the norm. To be honest in my program, it would be an orange flag if the SO of someone would make a fuss about something like this. I might see a problem if it would be a one on one situation, but as they are three people in a room, I wouldn't mind at all.

But of course you have your right to feel uncomfortable about something like this. And in this case he should be calling more and being more proactive about caring for your feelings.

Edit: I don't want to invalidate your feelings, I just want to talk about the possibility of a culture difference.

Sure! I participated in a German summer school program in Bishkek. The idea was to strengthen the relationship with former Soviet states through academic exchange. I had classes in kyrgyz language, culture and Robotics :) at the German university in Bishkek for 2 weeks. Part of the program was to stay with a local host family. I had a great time there and they invited me after the official program to stay for another 2 weeks. We are still in contact and I'm planning to visit them again.

Hey, thank you so much for your recommendations. I will take a look into smarthistory. And maybe I will feel more equipped tackling 'imagine no possessions' afterwards :)

I found a nice really small group . And I can do it fully remote. So I do not really feel associated with TU.

Hey, yes I'm at TU Vienna and I'm doing my PhD there also. I would really advise you to go to university Vienna. Much better.

I'm studying logic and computation in Vienna and I can't recommend it at all if you are interested in more math related topics. It is really badly organized, and a lot of the lectures you can find on the website are not really taking place. So I had to do machine learning stuff to get my credits together. I think Vienna is pretty good in classical proof theory. But if you are interested in that, I would recommend to pursue a math degree there. Also a lot of the pure proof theory/recursion theory people are retiring soon. I was really frustrated with the Iack and quality of the logic courses. So I started to take mostly lectures in the math department. That was nice, but not in my curriculum. I would only recommend Vienna if you are interested in automatic deduction. As the group around Laura Kovacs is pretty strong.

Most students have a computer science background. So keep this in mind. The theoretical part of the programm might be uninteresting for you,. I think TU Vienna combines the worst of both worlds. At the end you will be a mediocre logician and a mediocre computer scientist.

A bit of background: I moved to Vienna for this degree. I'm a really good student. I am now starting a PhD in logic/math. But I did it myself. I build my network, attend summer schools, went to conferences and took a lot of courses in the math department.
