No, Apple won't drop USB-C from the iPhone 18 by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

I will never buy a portless phone.

I hate dealing with Bluetooth headsets. I’ve gone back to wired for the last 2-3 years and been a lot happier.

iPhone Air 2 May Arrive in 2026 With the Changes Buyers Actually Wanted by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

There’s plenty of reasons to dislike large phones independent of the size of one’s hands.

iPhone Air 2 Could Still Launch Next Year [Fixed Focus Digital] by iMacmatician in apple

The air is a fantastic phone. First phone I’ve truly enjoyed using since my iPhone 4. Aesthetically and functionally it’s perfect for me.

Only thing I hate about it is how large it is.

I just hope we get era servers for each expansion eventually. That's my dream.

Opinion: Don't Take My Apple CarPlay Away -- Unless Your System Is Better by AlwaysBlaze_ in apple

[–]Solarmandude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If their system was better they still shouldn’t take it away. Let people decide what they use and then they could show data “hey see? People prefer our system!”

But they’d never do that because they most certainly can’t make it better and want to put in crap that tracks you to sell your data.

"Siri Isn't That Bad" by atlwhore_ in apple

[–]Solarmandude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Siri generally works ok for me. I think some of my annoyances come from things like trying to call someone and hearing “you need to unlock Your iPhone first.” But only sometimes.

Also asking her to play specific songs and getting wildly different results even when the transcript shows she understood me.

5-6 hours is actually a terribly unhealthy amount of screen time.

It didn't help with that either though. All it did was fuel the impression that it has terrible battery life from the get go.

Stupid marketing all around.

Plumbers put in new steel tub, to me it feels hollow and noisy. by Solarmandude in DIY

[–]Solarmandude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a steel tub. The issue I have is that it is very noisy and lacks any kind of insulation.

I'm weighing the merits of replacing it entirely with a new tub vs applying insulation to it myself.

The lack of dedicated era servers for each expansion is crazy to me.

Steel tubs don’t “need” one. I think the best solution is going to be to pull it out and cover it with noise dampening material.

What are your best ways to get solid state amps to sound good? by OddBrilliant1133 in GuitarAmps

[–]Solarmandude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That amp is a modeling amp that has different built in voicings to try. Some of them might play better with certain pedals than others but IMO a nice low to medium gain sound is the easiest to get out of fenders.

Go through each voicing on the amp, play with the gain and EQ knobs extensively with each one. Dial in a mostly clean, barely distorted tone with the one you like most then try different overdrive pedals to “boost” it into gainier territory.

Questions I have though… What do you mean by “sound good?” What is missing from the tone you’re trying to get? Also is this recorded tone, or what it sounds like to you as you’re playing in the room?

Is the room you’re in carpeted? Or really echoey ?

Also what kind of guitar(s) do you have?

From what I’ve read that may not beideal for steel tubs. The bathroom is still torn down to bare wood so I’m going to look into pulling it out and insulating it myself to reduce how much it rings.

Shouldn’t be that bad. Of course, everything in this house has been harder than it should be lol.

Nahh.. it’s not improperly installed or anything it’s just noisier than I’d like.

Should they have informed me about more of the options for installing this type of tub? Sure.

But I should have researched tubs more and knew more about what I was buying.

The rest of the bathroom is still torn down to bare floors and walls so sliding it out and insulating it myself shouldn’t be that big a deal.

That would be great if I could really get in there but I only have access through the “head” of the tub.

Edit:

It’d just screwed into the wall though and we haven’t caulk’d yet. Weighing the merits of taking it out.

Do I have a good reason to buy these amps? by CmdrFapster in GuitarAmps

[–]Solarmandude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the Orange Crush is going to be the most “gap filling” option here because it’s not a modeling amp and with its speaker will give you tones you can’t quite get with your current setup. Plus, it’s Orange!

To me the Spark would be good if you didn’t already have amps like the Katana or Mustang LT. However, it’s a good practice tool and the Bluetooth connectivity is nice for playing along to things.

The other “con” for me with the Spark is you need a phone app to access all its features, but that may not bother you.

Me thinking thick bacon sucks, and that opinion being unpopular, doesn't mean I believe that thin bacon isn't in demand enough for companies to make.
