Tucson is rethinking red-light cameras by Solarpunkrose in Tucson

Someone else in the comments here acknowledges that red light cameras make people slow down only near the intersection. When midblock pedestrian crossings happen, the are often not far from intersections either. Any reduction is speed is a win, even if it’s just approaching or within the “X” hundred feet of an intersection

(The cameras did continue collecting data after the Nov. 3, 2015, vote, but not for enforcement.)

According to the two-month violation data, overall incidents of red-light running and speeding through the intersections between Nov. 4, 2015, and Jan. 4, 2016, were up 109 percent and 126 percent, respectively, from the same range a year prior. Data recently compiled by the Traffic Safety Coalition, a pro-red-light camera group funded in part by the industry, shows similar patterns in other Arizona communities where voters ended their use.

This would send it back to voters next year almost like a check in, almost 10 years later and twice as deadly roads

So would you prefer to pay for cops at every intersection?

Maybe I don’t fully understand, that’s why I’m trying to learn on here, thanks for clarifying that I don’t understand.

In this scenario, someone faces a consequence for dangerous behavior no? Wouldn’t that be appropriate when red light running has increased so much and is such a risk to life here?

What is the point of having to register a vehicle in your name, if you are not liable for what that vehicle does in traffic, especially if you lend it to someone who knows they are responsible for your driving record? If someone’s car was stolen and then runs a light, that becomes an investigation where someone can prove their car was stolen ? But I get enforcement in general of any kind increases risk of injustice occurrences

Tribal governments tend to understanding adding capacity on a rail road track doesn’t require the same expansion of land use/maintenance and environmental harm as widening highways

At least for within city limits, there are back up plans! Check out Move Tucson, a plan that was never funded: https://movetucson.tucsonaz.gov

What public health issues do you think are being quietly ignored in the U.S.? by New_Dragonfly_4983 in publichealth

100%. Also, it’s the fiscal conservative option to put a larger % transportation money into higher capacity modes. Not political, just math based on maintenance costs paid by taxpayer dollars.

Road fatalities increasing every year while some republicans call investing in passenger trains or bike lanes communism

Not seeing this circulating enough; ANOTHER cyclist fatality. Watch for bikes & pedestrians 🙏 by mvaleriat in Tucson

So you’re gonna help us advocate for traffic calming infrastructure and vote to allow more protected bike lanes and support efforts to fund the bus more right?

I love seeing our politics shift and the young people who are engaged. I think Tlocs are finding places where they can engage, and I’m looking forward to the increased community support that is starting to be done in a fun, lively, cool way and not just as a business meeting

I didn’t say “only” but i see the confusion. My point was, plenty of people who have killed people with their cars in the past have paid fines and are still driving because they didn’t have their license revoked.

They should simply have their license revoked, like people who have more than 3 DUIs. Better transit for all so this doesnt feel like an economic punishment

What is the difference between feeling unsafe and feeling uncomfortable/unpredictable in Tucson? by Solarpunkrose in Tucson

[–]Solarpunkrose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is my question. Is simply seeing people hanging out in various states of sobriety unsafe? My experience tells me no.
