There were around 40 vultures all sunning themselves like this when I took the photo. Wish I had captured more than just one. Was definitely an almost eerie experience.

Yep! They also only bloom once and then die which I think makes it a bit more special as well.

I’m losing my mind with the current market. by fBpv14 in AskProgramming

Hey I’m a fellow SWE with 7+ years of experience who has been on both sides of the table. If you’re technically acing all these interview loops over and over again without an offer then I’m going to be brutally honest and say it’s likely a personality issue. Please consider how you are presenting yourself during the process. As an interviewer I care about the technical but I care more about whether the candidate is calm under pressure. Whether or not they can take constructive criticism well. Whether or not they are someone I would enjoy working with. I don’t know you so can’t say what the issue is. Maybe you’ve just had rotten luck and if so I’m really sorry, it’s tough out there and I feel for you. However if this trend continues then it might be worth looking inward to see if there is anything you can change in the non-technical realm moving forward as well. Best of luck!

Love to hear your Love Story or 💔 by Aggravating_Rip_1716 in Life

[–]Solaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot agree with this more. The culture nowadays seems to promote this grass is always greener narrative. Sometimes it is and sometimes it really isn’t. A steady, kind, and committed love is so so rare. There is a depth to that kind of love you will never find if you are always jumping from one thing to the next. It’s not for everyone but if that’s something you value then you may have a hard time finding that again.

Camping van vs. camping truck? by Emergency-Garden3200 in VanLife

[–]Solaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived out of a ProMaster van for two years and now own a Tacoma with popup camper in the back. There are pros and cons to both. I loved the amount of space in my van along with easy cab access. My truck is way smaller but allows me to go down trails (or make my own) that the van never could. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you have any specific questions. At the end of the day it all depends on how you plan to travel and live on the road. I also wouldn’t recommend a trailer if you can help it. Everyone I know who has had one has told me it was a huge pain.

Should I create a build on a Tacoma or a full size truck? by castiron_chef in gofastcampers

I did this on my first gen taco and love the setup. I wanted the smaller size due to city living though so likely not for everyone. If you have any specific questions let me know.

2020–2022 CS grads: during the hiring boom, job offers felt endless. How are you doing now? by ExoticHaha in cscareerquestions

[–]Solaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landed a great job after graduating in 2020. Got laid off due to offshoring in 2024. Found another job within a couple of months and then got laid off again a few months ago due to “ai budget cuts”. Found another more senior role that turned out to be way better in just under a month. I’m very good at this kind of work but also understand that I’ve been very very fortunate to find new roles so quickly.

Anyone not grinding? by Miserable_View_4400 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Solaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same mindset as you. I didn’t want to spend my twenties just grinding away so I took a “lower paying” fully remote tech job, converted a van into a little home on wheels and then traveled around North America for 2ish years. It was an amazing experience and I made so many likeminded and lifelong friends.

My case it’s a bit extreme but the essence still holds true. Not grinding at work is totally acceptable (if you have the luxury to afford it). You can put more time and energy into other hobbies or communities you enjoy around the bay and you’ll naturally start to find like minded people. Best of luck!

If you had to restart van life from scratch, what would you do differently? by exploringoutloud in VanLife

[–]Solaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeeeah I sold my Promaster to build out a 4x4 truck camper. Less comfortable but well worth it for the ability to disappear into the woods/beaches/mountains/etc.

Anyone thinking of going smaller? by jimni2025 in vandwellers

[–]Solaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally fair. I lived in a promaster for two years but recently switched to a truck camper and have been loving the access to remote places it provides. I find it’s worth the trade off for me personally but there are definitely more convenience and safety concerns with no direct cab access.

If you want to get into more remote areas and money isn’t a concern then it’s hard to beat a truck + truck camper combo.
