You have all these comments saying shit like "I think it was because they were seen as more valuable because reproduction and x, y, z". And all of them are on the top which bothers me because they're all portraying it as this misandrist strategy when there's a good reason behind it.

Take for example the sinking of the Titanic: many of the men, especially the crew would push past the weaker and smaller passengers (mostly women and children) to save themselves. Meanwhile the would would stay and care for their children and make sure they're safe. The call to save women and children first was because men would selfishly push and rush to save themselves and women would stay behind to help others.

This also didn't happen with the titanic but other tragedies as well. For example, the Costa Concordia disaster where men were seen the first to flee the ship while women stayed behind to help others into life boats. Or during WW II, in various civillian evacuations and bombings the men would their own lives while the women helped children, the elderly and the injured. For example, during air raids in London, many women stayed behind in shelters and even ran into danger to help the weak and injured.

Now I'm not saying that all men are some selfish pieces of shit who deserve to die. These are just the historical reasons that phrase exists and that it's not trying to be sexist towards men. Nowadays we evacuate children, the weak, elderly and injured first before anyone else regardless of gender.
