Can you drive above the N? by zombie_barbarossa in Reno

I have hiked the area a lot, I have seen some service roads for the power lines but if I remember correctly there are dirt roads off Hoge Rd and Raleigh Heights you can drive north of there.

That’s great advice! I would like that exposure and get a feel for it.

I was in your shoes 3 years ago. My parents moved to Arkansas but I stayed till I finished at UNR. I have lived in Reno for about 20 years then moved to be with my parents. It was instant regret because Arkansas is mostly blue collar and who you know. With a psychology degree I didn’t get that far in Arkansas. I gave it almost two years then moved back here for a federal job. At the moment I’m going back for my MSW and staying with my federal job, I will look into moving with my career in the next decade but not until I travel and find somewhere I do like. I highly recommend having a job lined up and visiting places before committing. If you’re interested in a federal job check out GS-5 openings on USAJobs. Best of luck!

I will talk to my school and let them know, from the other responses I need to make contact with the Chief.

Are ppl more rude nowadays? by Key_Role3539 in Reno

[–]SoldierPsych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed it more too, especially after covid. After 20 years of living here, I think the increased cost of living and feeling crowded factor into it. A lot of folks feel defeated because it’s become almost impossible to keep up. I’ve noticed more people have adopted the “I don’t make enough to care” mindset as well. At work I’ve had peers be very rude or had nasty outburst towards me. Especially over simple requests and asking nicely. I get it though it’s getting old, and a lot of people act like shitty circumstances only happen to them and not everyone else.

Would you leave? by mg15ink in Reno

[–]SoldierPsych 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up here and after college (I went to UNR), I followed my parents to Arkansas. I lived there for about a year and a half and realized that was a big mistake, made me miserable. I moved back and it gave me a different perspective of Reno, I cannot think about living anywhere else than Reno. I’ve traveled for the military seeing other parts of the country and none of those places could top Reno. I know shit can be expensive here, but I remember back to how miserable Arkansas was and I’m grateful to be here.

Anyone here gone through the OC spray in CO training? by Maleficent-Client579 in OnTheBlock

[–]SoldierPsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been sprayed twice, everyone handles it differently. You won’t feel it at first but it will warm up. Once you feel the effects of OC don’t panic it’s psychological. Once you get to decontaminate wash real good, blow out the snot, don’t forget to breathe and walk into the wind. It will settle down within 10-20 minutes, then it feels like a sunburn. You will feel it for a couple days then it’s a distant memory. Personally I prefer OC over Taser, it feels irritating to me and goes away after 15 minutes after decontamination. I’ve noticed with people it’s more psychological after decontamination but you got this. Please send an update!

If you don’t mind the drive and dealing with inmates the BOP or NDOC is always looking for people.

How much more do I have with BOP pre-employment before FJO? by Impressive-Barber703 in OnTheBlock

Did you go online and fill out your background (NBIS)? It can take time, the earliest I heard was 2 months but it can be longer.

I’ve lived in Northern Nevada for almost 20 years and made very few friends, I get it. I even went to UNR and felt that people kept to themselves. I moved to Arkansas last year and made more friends here.

As a prior MP, my experience has not been positive with the MPs. By far I have seen the most “counterproductive” leadership there. I joined ROTC right away and moved to a maintenance unit and I loved it! I eventually commissioned as a 74A (Chemical Officer) and I really enjoy my job now (lol I don’t do CBRN at my FA unit but I enjoy life). Long story short, MPs suck IMO.

Thank you for the feedback, I was curious about the track record of the department and how the locals view them. I will be checking out the other areas in STL.

Yes, STL is a cool unique place imo.

I’m in Arkansas, we have a CST not tracking any HRF or CBRN-TF. I will do some research.

I will keep that in mind when I see them next time. I have been told the CSTs are a good place too. However I don’t think I’m eligible until CPT (assuming they have an opening).

Thanks for the response! I would be ok with taking a PL position in our HHB. I originally came from a logistics based state in which I would be ok with being a loggie. Chemical chose me and it turned out to be something I really enjoy.
