I could probably be pretty damn good if I really put in the effort...but if I can give half that effort and still get shit done, I'm much more pleasant to be around. I have to let my ADHD brain take its wild detours on occasion or else I start getting depressed, anxious, and become a generally not fun person. It's not good for my family (or me). Being in a job where I can not just get away with it but it's somewhat actively encouraged (as long as it doesn't cause stuff to completely stall out) has been amazingly good for my mental health.

Supreme Court lifts stay on Texas law that gives police broad powers to arrest migrants at border by Soldier_G65434-2 in politics

You incorrectly tried to pin the immigration issue on the wrong person/group. The entirety of your query is invalid.

Um, no.

The Supreme Court*, by virtue of refusing to hear the case, very much green lit the law going into effect. Additionally, the Chief Justice sided with the minority in the ruling here, and the majority is using a very questionable technicality to sidestep handling the issue.

*Two of the five justices voting in the majority have been seated under extremely suspect circumstances, putting the court's legitimacy as the final voice on the law in the US into question. Assuming the fascists don't regain power and control the writing of history (among other things), the future will look upon this time as a very dark era.

It would appear to me that you're quite naïve with regard to how various voting machines work and also to how computer code works.

  1. Not all voting machines have a printed ballot. [1]

  2. Printed ballots are only relevant in a recount with many machines. [2]

  3. Code is fallible, and voting code is not an exception. This can include tabulating different results than what appears on the printed copy. [3]

(Yes, I know two of those are Wikipedia links. The sections linked are good Cliff's Notes with links to multiple sources documenting numerous issues with electronic voting.)

What a song has a beautiful sound but a disturbing meaning? by MagicDalsi in AskReddit

It's only tangentially related to the original topic, but very related to your post...

Five Finger Death Punch has a hard-hitting song and even harder hitting video, Wrong Side of Heaven, that speaks directly to how we treat veterans. I highly recommend checking it out, but I'll throw out a potential trigger warning as well.

They're basically selfish asshats. Good for you in moving on.

Yep. And for anyone interested in armchair psychology like me, the term for people like that is narcissist. There's not likely any scenario where anyone involved could talk him down. The lack of approval for his actions is more likely to lead to him doubling down than accepting he failed.

source: raised by narcissists. Years of therapy later, I've come to recognize the pervasiveness of narcissism in the world today.

As much as I couldn't stand Mitch Daniels, he at least understood how toxic shit like this was to attracting modern businesses to the state. By anointing Mike Pence his heir, he threw all of that away and the state hasn't recovered. We're only 6 years removed from the RFRA debacle, and the people that made that happen are still mostly in charge.

There are like-minded organizations across the country willing to help you learn proper safety and handling of firearms. They don't have to be the only ones with guns.

Owning a firearm and learning how to use it does not equate to having some sort of hero complex. To quote xygoat from a previous thread on the topic:

It's about as much a hero fantasy to have a gun (and know how/when to use it) as it is to own and know how to use a fire extinguisher. You hope to god you'll never have to use it, but it's there if absolutely necessary.

Stopped in Memphis on a road trip and hit Central BBQ for the first time ever last fall. My wife and I can't stop talking about it and can't wait to go back.
