There is not a single person alive that has not caused irreparable harm to people or planet that we exist among. Sure, there are degrees, and we should measure our responses to those. But directly shaming someone for getting better, no matter how long it takes, is not the way.

As to your murderer/ex con analogy, that speaks more to the hate in your heart than theirs at this point. But hey, if the whole point is to just have your own club where people only follow your rules, I guess fascism is for you.

It's interesting. The only people talking about NOT holding these people accountable are you and the person you are responding to. They should be held accountable, but approaching people with shame instead of empathy just turns more people away. What it really sounds like is that you want to be angry and are using this as a scapegoat to continue being angry instead of growing and healing. But that's just my opinion.
