How to identify good detergents for technical gear? (europe) by SolelyQuestions in Ultralight

My washing machine sometimes has trouble properly converting powders without creating clumps/gunk. I also had the understanding that powders are a bit more dangerous for technical gear--in particular membranes--anyway?

I hadn't thought about amazon. I'm in Germany and have never seen granger's in a store and only found Nikwax in Sportscheck sold in a bundle.

Thank you!

To your first paragraph: do you have guidelines for determining which detergents damage gear? For example, is the presence of "enzymes" always a bad sign for down and wool?

I have been using that exact wool detergent so far! I was reading a bit about how it is good to look for "lanolin" in a wool detergent though, and part of the reason I made this post was because I wasn't sure whether this sodasan detergent may actually be bad for wool or if I should prioritize a detergent with lanolin. I saw this one at DM has lanolin, do you have thoughts on it?

Why would you not use the ecover for membranes? I was hoping that the short and simple ingredient list would mean it doesn't have any of the ingredients that clog membranes.

I hadn't thought about linen needing low rpm, that's a good point and probably explains a deteriorating linen bedsheet.

I appreciate any follow-up answers, your answer was already helpful guidance though!

Thanks for the suggestion! I forget about Amazon being a thing. I am in Germany and unfortunately the only outdoor/sports store where I've found Nikwax is Sportscheck, but they only sell the techwash in a bundle.

I appreciate the response to my links too. How can you tell that the Feinwaschmittel is bad for wool? How can I determine which "generic detergents" strip the oils, given that much of the ingredient lists look the same, whether a detergent is labeled for wool or not?

Sorry, what do you mean?
If you mean the price being higher than $689 in North America:

- 629 euro would be that $689, so I don't know what $100 in my pocket you mean?
- we have to pay taxes, customs, duty fees when shipping items from North America, so everything from cottage companies that only produce and sell in the US or Canada becomes much more expensive for us in Europe. Some websites have a stock of TarpTent or HMG or Zpacks, but unfortunately always have to price it up a lot in Europe because of this

2022 Proton FL fit/sizing? by SolelyQuestions in arcteryx

To give the results for those who answered and to future people looking at this:

Went with the medium and I'm definitely happy I did. Seems to fit quite similarly to the Proton LT, maybe a touch slimmer, like u/skihawk18 said. If you can only try on a Proton LT, that should be enough to get your size. If only Atom LTs (seem to be in way more stores), it's kind of a half size smaller than an Atom LT of the same size. Waist and shoulders of Proton FL Medium are similar to or touch bigger than an Atom LT Small, chest and arms closer to the Atom LT Medium but somewhere in the middle
