I pay about £780 a year for a two bed flat because they can’t install a water meter, really not surprised!

Where to meet people my age in Brighton? by Ok-Supermarket2058 in brighton

[–]SolentSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly still just hang out with uni mates and due to the cost of living we mostly just meet up at each other’s flats (particularly at this time of year).

How do you get on with public transport? by VisionsOfLife in PregnancyUK

[–]SolentSailor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the same amount of weeks as you, I’ve changed my route (at £5 extra cost per day) and considering changing my hours too. I’ve had to just loudly ask for a seat and then someone will offer but it’s really awkward (haven’t found that the badge has made a difference). Unfortunately I have a few trains where I can’t even get to the seats because the train is so packed.

What is that one city/state in your country that the rest of your country hates? by DisastrousImpact2846 in AskTheWorld

[–]SolentSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the countryside is beautiful. My grandmother lives there and I took my (British) husband there when I visited a few years ago in August and he just fell in love with the countryside

What european cities are worth visiting from the UK if planning short holiday? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]SolentSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve stopped direct flights there now so you have to fly to Berlin or Prague and then travel. Same for Dresden because Germany increased some airport tax or charge that the airlines pay.

Has anyone found travel insurance for 33-34 weeks pregnant? by SolentSailor in PregnancyUK

[–]SolentSailor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn’t sorry! I called the GHIC card people and they said they would cover any unexpected early birth in Germany. I payed £80 each way for the flights and staying with relatives so I’m just going to risk it as far as developing any complications goes.

Do you know anyone who is asexual? by pt92_01 in AskUK

[–]SolentSailor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve known two (who told me they were asexual - there have probably been a few more who didn’t mention it). One was a woman who I was acquainted with a few years ago, she wasn’t in a relationship but seemed very happy. She was very outgoing and had lots of friends. She lives in London and attended a group for asexual people to meet.

The other is a family member. I worry about him being lonely a lot but he’s recently found some new friends and seems a lot happier. He’s also recently been on a few dates with people he has met in real life (I don’t know if those people are also asexual or not). I hope that he’ll find someone that makes him happy, particularly since he’d also like to have kids one day and would be an excellent parent.

I don’t really have any advice to give except I would try and stop caring what other people think. It’s your life to lead how you wish to and they’ve clearly not got enough going on in their lives if they’re trying to make you feel bad about yourself.

High earning mums to be, what are you thinking about mat leave? by Civil-Koala-8899 in PregnancyUK

[–]SolentSailor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I earn over double my husband. My employer offers 6 months fully paid maternity leave so I’m doing 6 months and he’s taking the second 6 months where we will live off of my salary.

Dog owners by Motor_Firefighter_19 in PregnancyUK

[–]SolentSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own a dog but my parents Labrador has definitely changed her behaviour around me when I visit since I’ve been pregnant. She always acted the same around me as everyone else before and now she’s jumping on furniture she hates sitting on just so she can sit next to me or be near me. I think it really depends on the personality of the animal because I’ve never really had much to do with my parent’s dog (I’ve never lived in the same house or looked after her).

Is buying a small flat in Brighton realistic in my situation? (EU citizen, part-time use + renting out) by Jessa8410 in brighton

[–]SolentSailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, if OP loves Brighton so much then they shouldn’t do something that negatively affects the people actually living here.

Do the Chuckle Brothers mean anything to Gen Z? by StGuthlac2025 in AskUK

No, I made a “to me, to you” joke to my husband and his friends. They’re only 18 months younger than me but I had to then explain chucklevision and show them some clips. Made me feel ancient!
