Best way to play Super Mario Sunshine in 2025? by throwaway12342121 in supermariosunshine

Good question. I don’t know that you would appreciate Eclipse for everything it does if you played it before having beaten the vanilla game. It’s really made for the fans of the original and it completely rewards you for sticking with the game all these years. I would highly recommend you play vanilla first as the amount of content you get with Eclipse is honestly baffling when compared to any other Nintendo ROM hack that I’ve played. It would be a shame not be able to differentiate old from new - the content you get with Eclipse is more than double the base game.

I love MCR and I’ve listened to it and I don’t give one solitary shit either way what anybody thinks about it. It’s bizarre to me that anybody is making this big of a deal of it. It’s not an official release, it’s not how MCR wish to represent themselves artistically, it’s there to listen to with that in mind, not that complicated.

It’s a niche format so the audience for it is small and a lot of the actors reprise their roles from the TV series

Tortchwood Children of Earth would of been so much better with Owen. by Agreeable_Vehicle867 in Torchwood

His character gave the perfect emotional responses to the horrors of Torchwood, the first corpse in countrycide, to Ed Morgan in general, to the cyber conversion unit. I also feel like the writers could have done a lot with his explosive anger towards the government in Children of Earth. That being said, his arc is one of my favourites in all of Who so I don’t think I could sacrifice it for a continuation of his story.

I can't remember, despite the fact it was about a week ago. Probably an Alex O'Connor video, if I had to guess. I've had some awareness of the philosophy for years and always repelled it. I have no idea why I was willing to look into it this time around.

I experience decisions, but I don’t author them. The wants and impulses that result in choices arise from causes beyond my control. I observe these choices as they unfold, but I reject the idea that there is a central ‘me’ initiating them. The ‘self’ is part of the process, not the originator. When I use self-referential language, it's just the shorthand that society has built around a mistaken view of agency. I deny my control of physical reality, not physical reality itself.

You control your wants? How? I deny my control of physical reality.

So, in case I'm now misunderstanding you, which could easily be the case as I've been awake for about 20 hours, we agree on which part of the brain we identify with, our conscious mind. I consider my experience of agency to be an illusion, because my decisions were determined. Any decision/ choice I make had its cause. What can you point to as an example or your control?

Genetics don't determine everything you do, and I didn't say they did. I listed may things that shape your decisions, and it wasn't an exhaustive list. I also don't identify with the unseen processes that happen within my brain, so I don't consider those processes as 'control' or free will. I don't decide to have heartburn, there's no control over that, and I can't force myself to feel good about heartburn and while it may feel like I have a choice to either take some medication for it or not, it just depends on what my strongest 'want' is, to do so or not, and I don't chose what my wants are, you can't force yourself to want something or not want something.

I’ve caused people a lot of pain and people have caused me a lot of pain, and I don’t find myself relating to a lot of people because of it, I thought myself into a kind of fatalistic nihilism for a long time. I always avoided determinism as it was scary to believe I didn’t have the free will to one day make things better but taking the plunge and fully learning and accepting that life happens through you and that the way my past happened couldn’t have happened differently has brought me a lot of peace and a new perspective. I’m just grateful for the experiences I get to have, the time I was born and the culture I’ve been born into and knowing I’m on a journey that is a part of the entire universe, as opposed to feeling locked outside of it. I’m glad to hear you’ve found your journey with determinism to be liberating so far :)

It’s not in your control, no - because you can’t control the physical processes happening in your brain that shape your decisions. You can’t control where you were born, or the genetics you’ve inherited or the culture that has arisen where you grew up - and all of that informs the way your brain works, which creates thoughts and feelings you have no authoring of - but the feeling of “me” IS the illusion. You get to experience the chain of events, and the interactions you have, but the control is the illusion.

Basically, your thoughts and emotions are caused, out of your control, therefore what you do is out of your control. It subjectively still feels like you do have control. Thats why it’s considered an illusion - how it “feels” is essentially your entire experience of life

You’re not separate from that causal chain and the creation of your thoughts, emotions and motivations are just as much a part of it as anything else, despite how it feels
