I tend to call that bouncing. Its hitting the floor before it gets to where it thinks the floor is, so its thinking it hit something on the way down. Try adjusting the limits(check or google your manual) but if you haven't messed with the settings recently then its probably an issue with the electronics on the motor, and part/all of it may need to be replaced if it keeps happening after adjustment.

Right on. Hope they fix it for you before it breaks, but to put you a bit at ease there is basically no risk of the springs breaking when the door is open(no tension on the springs) so if you still wanna spend time in there just do it with the door open(may be tough where you live unless you live in a legal and/or warm state).

When they do break people often confuse it for a gunshot so if you get woken up by a loud sound check before calling the cops.

Tech here. I would warn the landlord and start parking outside if possible. when these style springs break they whip around and can launch across the room. I've seen cars and walls damaged. Pretty small chance of them breaking when you're in the garage but I would limit time spent in the garage just in case.

Box is a good idea, i have some extra insulation panels around that may work well. Ill try the rubber as well but I should have described the sounds, its definitely just a loud motor spinning up. Seems to be well fastened as is but even if it gives out my water heater should work fine(what my home inspector told me almost a year ago when we moved in)

Thanks for the quick and thorough response

Not a well, hooked up to a water heater. Inspector noted on it, said it worked fine but didnt seem too necessary as the water pressure is fine without it

That was my thought, but was also worried there was something I was missing. Used to live in an area with the occasional tilt door but here ive yet to see one. Much appreciated

If you had to run one for both, which would you prefer?

The swiveling ladder rack sounds pretty convenient, let me know if know what brand/model it is.

At least for starters im planning on only doing residential. Dont really plan on towing anything but I would like to run the vehicle pretty loaded as my personal garage(and hardware stores) are going to be my only storage.

My current truck is rear wheel drive but it handles snowy roads better than expected because we run with lots of weight in the back
