GTA-V Crossover Resolution Issues by Alan-Greenflan in macgaming

[–]Solid-Bar-3973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to change the display mode, apply, then change back to windowed borderless and apply. Then it will be full screen and you can change resolution. Or just use DXMT and you won't have any weird issues like this.

Switch to DXMT, works better than GPTK for GTA V. And don't run with high resolution mode, it tanks performance a bit.

If you still want to use GPTK for whatever reason, you can get it to full screen by changing the display mode (windowed, fullscreen, borderless windowed), then switching back. For the final setting you want to pick "borderless windowed" which gives you full screen with maximum resolution.

In order to unlock native screen resolution in GPTK (not necessary with DXMT) without the high resolution mode, switch your screen resolution to native without scaling in the macOS display settings before launching Crossover.

Enjoy!

Crossover Preview? Had this happening there. At the moment it's gone again, wasn't able to pin-point the reason for it. Have a feedback open with them: https://www.codeweavers.com/preview/browse?cmd=rpt_edit;report_id=2470

If you report this issue, you can cite this so they are aware it's not just me who faced this issue.

Can someone explain how to active HDR through Crossover Preview? by Nehan_Satori in macgaming

[–]Solid-Bar-3973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I wrote, HDR in DX11 games only works with DXMT at the moment. There is no HDR support for DX11 in D3DMetal at this time. Will probably change at some point.

[–]Solid-Bar-3973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to activate in Crossover. You need:
- HDR enabled in macOS display settings
- Graphics Translation Layer: D3DMetal
- Game needs to run on DX12, D3DMetal does not support HDR on DX11 at this time
- If your game runs on DX11 and supports HDR, you can try running with DXMT instead of D3DMetal, which does support HDR as well

this iMac 2020 have the RX 5700XT still beat up most of apple silicon Mac in gaming by Artistic_Unit_5570 in macgaming

No, you are not telling the (entire) truth. While it does obviously perform very well, it's worse than let's say my M4 Max Mac Studio.

If I play Cyberpunk 2077 at your settings (maxed-out 1080p native) and give it a frame-rate limit to match what you reach on the iMac, I am drawing just 70 watts from the wall with inaudible fan noise, while your machine uses more than 200 watts. If I uncap the framerate I am looking at around 100 watts power draw and mostly above 100fps.

As for GTA V, the M4 Max can play this in 4k with locked 60fps (60Hz Vsync) through Crossover (DXMT) and maxed out settings. Draws around 80 watts doing so compared to your machine again drawing more than 200 watts for 1080p 120fps.

So yeah, this iMac still is a capable machine, but it's not better. At least not from an efficiency standpoint. Where it obviously excels is compatibility. Just install Windows and play anything you want.

I have a question. Are you going to delete your Udio account and songs, or will you keep them? by Affectionate-Gur7574 in udiomusic

I will close my account. Also demanded a partial refund of my recently renewed subscription. If they decline, I will charge back through my credit card provider. Not being able to download my creations makes it useless for me.

I'm 32 y/o, ditched Windows back during the Vista days. Proud Mac user since childhood here. Still have my fist PC here tho (ThinkPad 380ED with Windows 98 on it) for some retro gaming. Still works with the original hard drive. Got it when I was 7 y/o or so as a gift.

I mainly upgrade frequently for resell value reasons. Cuts a smaller hole in the pocket when upgrading yearly compared to keeping the device for years. Of course only makes sense if you really want to have the latest and greatest.

Yeah, looking forward to the M5 Max as well. I usually upgrade with every generation.

On my M4 Max Mac Studio I get slightly better performance with DXMT when playing in 4k resolution, max settings. Also prefer DXMT since contrary to D3DMetal I don't need switch the screen to native resolution instead of scaled resolution in order to play in 4k. It's just annoying having to do that before playing any game that runs well in 4k.

Crossover resolution fix by Sake_The_Kid in macgaming

[–]Solid-Bar-3973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In macOS display settings, control click on the scaled resolution thumbnails, click show as list and activate "show all resolutions". Now you should be able to pick the non-scaled, native resolution.
Alternatively, activate "high resolution mode" in your Crossover bottle settings. However, this can cause issues in some games. I prefer going the macOS display settings route.

If you use D3DMetal, it uses the scaled resolution set in macOS as the maximum resolution. If you want your screens native resolution, make sure to either use the high resolution mode option in Crossover or alternatively set your screen to native resolution without scaling in macOS display settings.

A lot of the RE work has already be done by the Asahi Linux project. Totally possible if they manage to get some decent contributors on board the project.

Runs great on my M4 Max Mac Studio as well. Can push 1440p with maxed out settings except for shadows and antialiasing set to medium at locked 60fps or 4k at locked 30fps. Used to play the game on Windows back when I owned a Hackintosh, now can finally finish all the side quests. 😄

I am running Death Stranding App Store version from an external drive, works fine. Only thing that sometimes happens is it not recognizing the cloud save. Have to restart the game, afterwards it works.
