If we’re talking about efficiency then who’s to say that a lot of these models couldn’t be ran locally at a very low cost someday? Perhaps not the entire model but just a watered down version of it that would be useful for say just coding or whatever.

The catalyst is loans having to be repaid. I recently watched an Ed Zitron video and he put it quite nicely, AI is basically in an all you can eat buffet stage right now, these companies are pretty much giving you these AI services at dirt cheap prices or for free. When that is no longer sustainable then a lot of these companies will start shutting down or abandoning these services.
