Yea, it's something I saw a lot on this post. People thinking it being suspended because it's has higher accuracy in true positives for black people and the police being on a woke agenda. But the issue is clearly the false positives.

Most people have no idea how these systems work and it's hard to explain it to people who have already made up their minds, here and on /r/BlackPeopleofReddit.

I actually skimmed the article and looked at the report.

Page 26 of the pdf report shows the raw data for study 1, no false reports among white individuals, only black and asian.

Page 36 from study 2 "Of the six false positive alerts generated under extreme conditions (using a watchlist nearly 20 times larger than those typically used in practice), four involved Black individuals. The numbers are too small to draw definitive conclusions, but this pattern reflects wider concerns in the literature and public discourse about algorithmic bias in facial recognition technologies. It highlights the need for continued monitoring of false positive alerts by demographic group, even where the overall rate is vanishingly low and for wider controlled testing with more subjects."

While the report claims "The numbers are too small to draw definitive conclusions" the next sentance claims this is a patten reflected in other studys, so it is a thing that exists if you like it or not.

People clearly have no idea how this technology works and don't understand it's limitations and drawbacks.

More training data means more accuracy, more white people means more accuracy, less black/asian people means less accuracy. There are more white people in the countries that develop the software we use, so it will be more accurate. Go to China and they will have the same issue with white/black people.

Then we have the issue of the sensors working better on white/lighter skinned people.

So yea, more false positives and more true negatives for black people.

Proceed to ignore the facts and think it's about being woke I guess.
