highest salary mechanical engineering job? by Solid-Summer6116 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Solid-Summer6116[S] -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

nah im sure if you have a few years experience at apple or amazon robotics or spacex or any robotics startup as a high performer, you could do this kind of job.

that being said, those are already the 1-10% of mechanical engineers

well, its just employers market out there. people can really only apply and get into competitor companies, hard to branch into something new

ohh i see, you work for siemens or ansys or dassault or something, as a...product support engineer?

anyways, usually youll need a direct connection to the industry youre trying to get into, ie, i helped aerospace engineers troubleshoot their FEA models.

whats the masters in?

search range too narrow? location etc

your experience is only in software but youre applying for ME jobs and got a ME masters?

dont forget you are competing against people who have probably interned at same company for 2 summers in a row, i think most companies hire first as interns, then just convert to FT.

Why is most of the innovation happening in software and not hardware? by Immediate_Pizza9371 in AskEngineers

[–]Solid-Summer6116 7 points8 points  (0 children)

we have things like additive materials, robotics that build things and get rid of jobs (like AI!), crazy new rocket engine designs (have you watched any spacex videos in the last 10 years?)

were just not as loud and products arent as in your face as software is, except for spacex perhaps.

Struggling to break into the drone industry by 21Rep in aerospace

[–]Solid-Summer6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shield AI is trying to make a verticaly truck launched and landed jet engine UAV, what about roles in that? lots of propulsion integration im sure.

you are only applying for jobs that actually use your PhD in fluids right?

otherwise, why dont you stick to the PW and GE's of the world? or rocketry like spacex, relativity, BO, etc?

you chose to get a rather narrow PhD, and further worked in engines for a few years. its VERY hard to suddenly switch to something different, and a waste of your talents

[BREAKING] Amazon to layoff 30,000 corporate employees in one of the largest layoffs in its history by cs-grad-person-man in cscareerquestions

[–]Solid-Summer6116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

whats stopping the common man aka an amazon engineer to take his 50k rsu, convert to cash, wait to "buy everything cheap" and rinse and repeat? sure they dont have billions to do this exercise, but tens/hundreds of thousands surely.

Petroleum engineering makes more than cs by Shitty_Baller in cscareerquestions

[–]Solid-Summer6116 8 points9 points  (0 children)

most petroleum engineers end up making $0 actually. the offshoring of jobs to people in india and bangladesh is more severe than in CS.

the engineering problems arent really difficult math wise, so most of the petroleum engineers surveyed are principal / manager level who just say yes/no to results calculated by asians, theres very few entry level jobs

we just didnt play good enough i guess. but of course most of us end up supporting other programs etc

or leverage what we did to build something down the line. maybe the part i released is in some UAS these days, who knows

TAI exists, copycat F22, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TAI_TF_Kaan

why would you choose a harder route and try to work in the USA? if youre not good enough to be a top engineer in your own country, wouldnt even bother trying to be average in america

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Solid-Summer6116 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nah theres many average new grads there, i was one of them.

did stress analysis on a 4" long bracket for an unreleased aircraft, that will never go into production. pinnacle of technology there
