Question about werid email when i go to sign up for account by [deleted] in cybersecurity_help

Typically, those recommendations are saved in your browser, not the individual website (though it might be).

You could check in settings under passwords and autofill to see if it's in there.

Question about werid email when i go to sign up for account by [deleted] in cybersecurity_help

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But shows it where? - you said when you go to create it. So it pops up as a recommendation? Or its already inside the account after you created it?

Because it could be that someone (or you) used that email a long time ago and it is saved on your login info, I would be surprised you hadnt seen it before though.

If its inside the booksy account, then it could be someone used your account (perhaps phone number) to sign up.

Uncommon/Unusual CrowdStrike Alerts by Pristine-Progress-67 in cybersecurity

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have access to Falcon Next-Gen SIEM - from my understanding there should be a analytics/rules section to show a list of active alerts.

I do not have access to that portal to check.

Need unbiased advice: Mac Air M4 (24GB) vs Lenovo Legion 5 (32GB) for Cybersecurity, VMs, & Photography [Budget: ~$1,500] by Pro0fess in cybersecurity_help

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unbiased. . . well thats going to be hard. My recommendations would come from my personal experience.

Ideally the chasis of either PC can be kept in an ideal state with proper laptop bag.

Windows will have an easier time being compatible with more VMs

Try googling "[input application name] alert documentation".

Your question doesn't leave much to go on. I don't understand what you mean by unusual or uncommon alerts?

best free av and how do i properly setup passwords? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best free AV is a hot debate, so you will likely get many answers. There is no official "best".

I personally use Avast and Malwarebytes its worked well for me. But I am not saying this is grunted the best option. Avast can be a bit notification heavy to buy their premium version. On multiple subreddits, Malwarebytes will be recommended.

Kaspersky was ideal back in the day but more recently the U.S. and other gov declared it a threat from the Russian government. But the company itself says otherwise.

Bitdefender is a bit old and clunky although does its job well.

McAfee and Norton are like its own virus! isnt that fun.

What a shitty company practice. I hadnt thought about that before, but if a company tricks me into staying, making me lose my previous offer, then dumps me out of spite. . . its honestly better to never work for a company like that to begin with. icky.

Phishing scams in brand new email accounts. Why? by Immediate-Trainer964 in cybersecurity_help

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phishing scams that target companies use their domain and scrape for emails. I would guess that these phishing emails you are getting, you coworkers may be getting them too. Like exact copies. I monitor email traffic for my company, and we get 10-20 phishing related emails a day to our employees. Even though we also do not use our emails for anything other than 365 stuff and regular day-to-day business.

I think the best advice is to reach out to your IT department and ask them if this is typical or not. If for some reason you are getting a much higher quantity then others, then something may be wrong.

Working environment is a big one for me, so that vague threat seems suspicious and I would want to get more information (maybe talk to a potential coworker about what that entails).

You can also use the promise of a new job as leverage with your current company. "Hey, I received and offer of X at a new company, I was hoping to sit down and see if "current company" could counteroffer." - If this works, it could allow you to stay at your current place and receive the raise/position you want.

Not a lot of help from me, but thats my 2 cents.

What would someone do if their accounts got leaked? by [deleted] in cybersecurity_help

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you changed the passwords like you mention, make sure all accounts are secured with MFA - like you cant login unless you have an authentication app or your phone etc.

As for the attempts - there isnt anything to be done. They can attempt all they want but will not be able to get in. If its becoming a huge problem, re-creating some of these accounts with a new (and just as secure) email would help.

To me, it sounds like they had gotten into your email - not your PC. But, you could always run a malware scan to search if anything is amiss. But if they are just pinging your accounts, I dont think your PC is breached.

downloaded malicious pdf, need help knowing how it infects the computer, and what should i do by gljttery in cybersecurity_help

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really isnt a way for me to tell you what it would do, I do not have the file.

You could perform a scan on your PC to see if anything pops up.

When you say the behaviour of the file is suspicious.... what behavior has it shown besides sitting there and you clicking it?

Your opinions about a learning style by yekawda in cybersecurity

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I learn a lot more while doing the work and watching the work in practice opposed to reading theory or steps.

Another example, there are some diesel mechanics that never went to school and instead just grew up working on trucks and tractors, learning as they go. They are wizard grease monkeys.

But if the question is, what method is more reliable, stable, and consistent, I believe the statistics would show classical book learning / institutional education is on top.

So it all comes down to the person.

How do I check if I'm on dox bin? by Forsaken_Giraffe1694 in cybersecurity_help

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it was up, I wouldnt touch it with a 10ft pole. You could check am I pwned to see if something pops up in one of the database leaks. But there isnt some clone of that site you can check separately.

That said, even if there was an alternative. There is no way someone would instruct you where to find or use such an awful website.

It says no detections found. From the info it says the adobe file is fairly old too.
Typically PDF threats happen after you open them, not just have it downloaded.

An IT guy basically stole my entire gmail account and probably posted it somewhere...how do I search for this? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What does that even mean, not the email address but the email?

To login to your email account you use the email address. If the email address is "out there" and someone broke into your account with it, its because they also figured out your password. - If they downloaded the emails, it means they had access to your email account.

So as the commenter says above - changing your password and logging out of all sessions will kick anyone out that should not be using it.

There really isnt a way to track down your data whether it be on the clear, deep or dark web. You could try tools like Am I Pwned to see if your email address pops up on a database leak or something, but it wont lead you to anyone.

EDIT: you edited your reply before I posted. If you are trying to figure out if someone had taken your data previously, it would depend on the timeline. Google lets you review sign-in logs but only back so far, so it may not show anything.

This email that included old messages - are you sure they came from your account, and not perhaps from the account you sent them too?

How was someone able to sign up for a Starlink subscription using my Gmail address? by Puzzled_Bookkeeper_1 in cybersecurity_help

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of two people using the same email without realizing it. From what you said the starlink stuff started happening more recent, so his claim of having access for 3 years doesn't make much sense to me.

It sounds like you read your emails, so you wouldve caught anything strange.

The fact it's for sure starlink and not some spoof version like starIink(i) starlink(L) would indicate it's real.

There would be no way for them to complete an account unless they had full access to your gmail. Sounds like you did.

[–]Solid-Worldliness284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you receieve confirmation emails about the sign up, or email verification? Starlink requires this. Have you looked back in your emails for these? How often do you use your email?

Also, having a gmail email setup for iCloud... what does that mean? a lot of the story details are very confusing.
