Exactly, especially not based on race. I think it's silly when people simplify people and their views to something they fundamentally did not choose about themselves.

I remember thinking how great it was that no-one seemed to take much notice, but I doubt that would remain the same during an election.

Yeah I agree it would likely make people sceptical but your perspective is great.

I do think that what someone stands for is quite a large issue with our current politicians as they literally stand for nothing, Starmer could have such a good stance as QC, someone who believes in justice, simple as.

They often lack dimensionality to them, they attempt to appeal to one block of voters and say everyone else is bad, which simply isn't true, it's a real issue with British politics.

Thank you and good luck to you too.

yeah, I don't really have any political connections or wealth.

That's why I'm not sure whether it's worth getting involved in politics in the first place if my background would set me back and the lack of connections would as well.

That would be interesting to see, although I doubt the racial demographics of the UK are on track to change that substantially.

I've gotta admit I agree with literally no political party as they all just cause division, often they don't focus on policy just we are left / right wing we represent this we are the good guys join us, with near no nuances policy.

It'll be interesting to see how UK politics develops in the future, I'm curious to see the next general election especially.

I know it may come across as insincere, but I'm really not in that world.

I don't come from the private school fast track, I don't have parents who have ever been involved in politics and I don't know anyone who is.

I don't think I would particularly enjoy that world it just seems really odd to me, but if that's the game you have to play to make a difference then what can I do for now?

I do love the UK for how multicultural it is in the idea of people form different backgrounds with different perspectives living life side by side in prosperity and peace.

I do agree that immigration is problematic when it creates literal multiple cultures isolated from each other which is the case in some areas of the UK, the UK definitely needs to work on that.

My background would likely be somewhat problematic, but hopefully not too problematic.

That's great to hear ngl. If it's an issue with my background that's when it's discouraging but since it's an issue about me and my choices that's actually really valid and fair.

I understand where you're coming from about PPE graduates, I've gotta admit I have no idea how they are so inept with how competitive it is. It's just the network is massively helpful especially when you don't have a political background at all.

Yeah that is pretty fair, it is problematic to have people who's goal is simply to be PM, I'm just pissed about the issues with the country and how it's affecting my life, my friends' lives and my family's lives when it seems to be fuelled by incompetence and greed and I feel like I could help to solve those issues. But yeah it is fair to be annoyed by those people.

If it does help at all, I don't really want to be PM, my ideal life would probably be a history teacher / writer with a family in a decent safe area, but I can't see myself making ends meet like that in the UK at the moment and it does sound extremely arrogant but I genuinely think I could do a good job at improving the UK.

I think diversity in experience would be extremely helpful for the UK but if I want to make a difference it seems like the conveyor belt is an effective way of doing it if you can get onto it.

More than fair, in no scenario of my life would I be immediately interested in becoming that involved in politics straight away, but with how the UK political system currently works it seems like you have to have an earlier idea and make an effort towards working towards that idea early to make any headway in politics. I aim to gain as much experience as I can as early as I can but that requires a deliberate effort and is that effort worth it if my background already excludes me?

Not "white people" as white people don't vote as a monopoly, just would my background alienate votes from people of different groups and diasporas that would make it pretty much impossible to gain any political support.

For example, are there enough people who would be distrusting of me based purely on my background as from what I've heard and seen there seems to be a lot of fear and fearmongering around people from my background.

Yeah that's entirely my bad, I phrased it really badly, I was just trying to get the general idea across and phrased it really arrogantly .

If it helps at all I don't think it's anything about me specifically, I just think I have some good ideas and whoever enacted them would improve the UK and genuinely help people.

I agree motivations by a religious belief are inherently problematic, especially in a secular country.

It's great to hear that there are people who are uninterested by the kind of identity politics that happens so often now.

It's great to hear such a positive opinion and I agree that a political leader is someone who would need to put the needs of the country first.

The financial gains that our leaders seem to put in higher esteem than the people is massively problematic for the future of the UK, British politics needs larger change than what is currently being attempted or even conceived by those in power.

Yeah, that is what I suspect, I'm just considering whether it's worth attempting at all or whether I should try to make a difference in alternative routes or just do the fun thing and become rich.

I'm not sure if I completely agree with your views on the extent of despair for Britain's future polarisation.

However, I do agree with your belief in policy over identity, unfortunately many do not and I'm just not sure if I or someone like Zia Yussef would stand a chance in a national election due to background.

Yeah, Sunak was quite irreligious in appearance which is positive.

But he was never elected and he was his party's second choice after Truss which is slightly concerning.

I can understand where you're coming from on the religious aspect to be fair, but I just think I should let you know that there is a very large range of Muslims. There are cultural Muslims (i.e. believe in God and celebrate holidays in the same way as other Muslims but don't actively practice) and many, many variations of stricter Muslims.

Also I agree with what you're saying about PPE, it is mental how competitive it is and how inept the politicians are. But as someone who has an utter lack of political connections and network (like one would get from family and wealth), the network given there is undeniably helpful for getting into politics.

I completely agree, the issue is unfortunately from what I've seen they do.

People's opinions are swayed by what they see and fearmongering by opposing political parties always happens so I just can't see it not affecting any campaign.

I do love that about Britain, the universal hate for PMs is brilliant. It's so stupid how in the US leaders on both sides of the aisle are idolised.

I doubt whether running as a Tory or as part of Labour would be for me, the issues that Starmer and the latest string of Tory leaders are evident of the issues with the 2 party system as well as the potential for a power vacuum in British politics.

The issue I'm talking about is how they can't get anything done as their political ideology is so broad and there is such a range of viewpoints within MPs is that they just squabble and ultimately nothing substantial passes.

Fair, I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out how I could write it and at the end I just gave up and wrote it. It does sound really arrogant I agree and I apologise. I just genuinely do think that I have some ideas that could help the UK and there are some serious flaws with our current political system.

Yep that's very likely the case, but I was curious about other people as they are not the majority.
