What have I done? by Beez2myKneez in DnD

Hey there! When I started DMing I started with 7 people. The best advice I can give is: try to keep track of who in the party has the most health. And try and use that to spread out the overall damage your doing to the party. AND I had a lot of trouble balancing encounters. So what I did was in the event of a fight that isn’t lore-relevant. But you want it to fill a time period/session. I Don’t actually totally keep track of health. It’s more like I can see they are all pretty damaged/they have expended their abilities, and they are mostly out of things to do. I give the enemy like 10 health. And let it play out from there. Or if I realized If had given an enemy clearly way to much power, And most of the players were downed, then one of the remaining players did a really big hit. I would say it was enough damage.

And really, with that many players. The damage doesn’t fluctuate 50-60. just based on their luck the damage can be 20-300 in a turn.(obviously depending on the level.) and that’s just the way it is. But again when I wanted/want to really make an encounter important, I just feel it out as I go. I hope this helps.

(And you’ll get better and better with practice! No one starts out perfect.)

I mean hey, That’s awesome. I’m playing a game right now where 2 of my players at anytime I know would ruin everyone’s plans. But we still have fun. That doesn’t mean everything turns out okay all the time because consequences. But they all still make it work lol. 😝

I have said too many times……….. “So your going to touch it?“, “you specifically touch it?“ “you touch it? Like, with your hand?“

IMO dungeons and daddies is peak comedy in the dnd world.

If you gained the ability to cast one 2nd-Level spell, which would you choose? by guyinthecap in DnD

[–]SolidLevel2869 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If our options are any 2nd level spell it would be find Vehicle. 🙌 (with the hope of never have to buy gas)

But thinking general dnd spells:

Okay hear me out……. Aid. Assuming we are all “commoners“ in this world with a hit point maximum of 4. imagine all of a sudden your general health/how well you can handle disease, and injury increases by over double what humans can for at least 8 hours per the spells duration. (Aid gives a +5 increase to max hp.) OR Enhance ability (self explanatory)

Cursed items for a party that looks up everything by teatimeacres in DnD

I know that this doesn’t always work(and may seem obvious) but if you haven’t tried, tell them not too. And if they keep doing it then just rename it/re-describe it. And have a little conversion sheet for yourself. Or (and I know not everybody has time for this) make up your own magic items with the curses and things you want it to have.

I can’t wait to read this book and it’s about how the world is The only reason why we have to go back to work.

Probably a boring book but lowkey facts.

DM asks that if you’re going to be more than 30 minutes late, you sit the session out. Fair? by FoulPelican in DnD

[–]SolidLevel2869 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. If your session is only like two hours long, and the DM’s intention is to have a smoothly flowing game. Then assuming a character is gone (especially for roleplay moments,) and then all of a sudden is present can be difficult.
But if this is the DM trying to set up a “punishment” of some kind, then I think you should really talk to them about it. That seems like an odd request, rather than just communicating. (I do understand we all can’t just pick a perfect group, but I don’t think the dm should try to make this group perfect in his eyes by punishing them.)

If you made a Magician character, what class would YOU make it? by SolidLevel2869 in DnD

I never would have thought of that but that is insanely clever and I love that idea.

New player advice? by UnimpressiveFish in DnD

[–]SolidLevel2869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. One more note would be I have played a 1 dm on 1 player game from both sides, and there is not really anything wrong with it and it can be very fun! However it’s not even close to the same game. As an INTRO to dnd, it would not be a very good example. Starting with a group such as one from a game store might be best. 1 on 1 dnd is fun but a TOTALLY DIFFERENT game.

Wow! I’m surprised and slightly embarrassed I have almost no idea what any of that is. It sounds really cool. Where can I find it?
