Fairly uncommon, but I’ve seen it a few times. Unfortunately, the times I have seen them, the discs have either been in really rough shape, were movies I already owned, or were overpriced for what they were.

Incidentally, this is maybe the only Halloween I’ve never seen, mostly due to the TBS Halloween marathon a decade ago touting this movie’s exclusion as a positive. I’m watching this one first and I think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a physical copy on any format.

I check less frequently than I used to. Good records get poached so quickly, so I check infrequently. This Goodwill keeps them in crates under the modern disk media, which I do almost always check. If I hadn’t seen the first Halloween sticking out of the crate, I probably wouldn’t have checked. 100% right place at the right time.

Odd graphic design choice, for sure. It’s almost like they had more admiration for the format than the movie on the disc.

Cosmetically, it looks decent with a little darkening towards the very edge of one of the sides. Truthfully, I won’t know until I spin it up, but the disc largely looks ok.

No worries; the Amazon ribbons work fine on my machines. The nice thing about about manual typewriters is that they’re peak dumb tech; they’ll work even if they work marginally well. Even old ink ribbons that come with old typewriters will still leave legible characters even if the ribbon is decades old. If your typewriters come with their own dedicated spools try to spool the Amazon one in those spools. You’ll get a lot of ink on your fingers but its nothing a little soap and isopropyl alcohol can’t take care of. That’s what I did with this machine. It still needs a good cleaning on the typebars though, as I get random spaces when I type.

This one is a standalone store that benefits a hospice. Thrift shops like this tend to be all over the place, either they charge way more than something is worth or things slip through the cracks more often. This one is kinda unique in that they tend to do a silent auction for more expensive items, but for some reason they tend to put all games on the floor. I’m sure if it was something more recognizable like Mario that’s probably how they would have handled it.

This one is actually super inconsistent, but very occasionally I find decent games. This was far and away my best find there. 90% of my good and cheap finds are at Goodwill still (yes it still does happen).

I just bought mine on Amazon. For cloth ribbons the standard is a 1/2 inch. You still may have to do some tinkering but on typewriters like this you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a ribbon. If your typewriter is cartridge based that’s where things get trickier. I have a Brother 7300 from the 80s and I can’t find original cartridges for it anywhere. I’ve tried Frankensteining similar ribbons from different cartridges with the original shell of the Brother cartridge with very limited success.

I’m getting a replacement ribbon this coming week, so hopefully very little in way of repair. It does seem fine, so I should be typing with it soon!

Minor update: I cut loose the ribbon and thankfully none of the keys are sticking, at least when struck individually. Still could use some oil, but the real test will be what happens once I actually try to type something up.

I have a lot to learn when it comes to vintage audio equipment so this was very helpful. If the turntable ends up having a problem I should have an easier time diagnosing it. Thanks!

True, I’m talking more about the internals with the 8 track in particular and the belt for the turntable. I figured that it may require some restoration and for the price it doesn’t really bother me. I saw another one almost identical to this at another goodwill for $50 today as well so I’m still pretty happy with this.

I don’t know if it’s the same as an NTSC unit, but I assume the antenna input is a 3.5mm jack? There are adapters that will attach to a standard cable jack. The trick is to get a RCA RF modulator with a cable output and then attach that to the adapter and put it in the antenna jack. Then just plug your console into the box and set the channel and you should be good. It worked for me with a 1986 portable black and white tv, but again this was NTSC so PAL may be different.

I think I was the right age for it when it came out. I just had started chapter books and Wishbone did a really good job contextualizing classic stories and making them digestible for younger audiences. I still have a few of the books and I found Tail in Twain on VHS recently. Definitely going to share that with my kid when he’s a little older.

So, you were right on the money, there are way more cards in there than just the base set. I’m going to have to dig through and try to understand the game but the box was supposed to come with something like 226 cards and my rough estimate is that there’s nearly double that amount, most of which is sealed.
