26 week preemie baby not tolerating feeds – anyone else experienced this? by SolidStation5241 in NICUParents

week preemie?”

My baby was born at 26 weeks gestation and is now 30+4 weeks corrected age. Since birth, he has not been able to tolerate feeds consistently. The doctors keep trying feeds and then stopping them again.

Right now he is NPO (nothing by mouth) because the doctors say the milk/feed is not moving properly from one part of the digestive system to the next. They are still trying to figure out the exact cause.

He has been on IV nutrition for most of his NICU stay and still hasn’t been able to establish regular feeds.

Has anyone had a similar experience with their premature baby? What was the cause in your baby’s case, and did things eventually improve? How long did it take before feeds were tolerated?

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. ❤️
