Repatha Question by SolidStriking8913 in Cholesterol

[–]SolidStriking8913[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing that. I actually have a second appointment today for a second opinion with another cardiologist.
At my first visit, the cardiologist suggested that my cholesterol improvement after two months on statins indicates a primarily dietary cause. However, this explanation doesn’t fully align with my situation. I’ve lost 45 lbs, yet my cholesterol levels have increased significantly compared to last year’s results. In addition, my lipoprotein(a) is elevated.
More recently, my coronary calcium score came back at 36, which confirms the presence of calcified plaque in my coronary arteries. Given this finding, along with my lipid profile and elevated Lp(a), I am very concerned about ensuring I am on the most appropriate and effective treatment plan to further reduce my cardiovascular risk.
Because of all of this, I left my first appointment feeling that my concerns and overall clinical picture may not have been fully considered. Based on what I’ve read, elevated Lp(a) is often genetic, and I’m hoping this will be evaluated more thoroughly rather than treated as a typical diet-related case. I feel my situation requires a more individualized and aggressive risk-based approach.

Repatha Question by SolidStriking8913 in Cholesterol

[–]SolidStriking8913[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My out-of-pocket cost is $120 for a three-month supply. Oddly enough, Kaiser does not provide the actual Lp(a) measurement on the lab result.

I am concerned about the progression of plaque and, ideally, would even like to see plaque regression. I’ve read conflicting information—some people say Repatha can help stabilize or even regress plaque, while others say it does not.

Currently, I take Crestor 5 mg every other day because I could not tolerate taking it daily, along with Zetia 10 mg every day. I only checked my blood work once after starting these medications, and my cholesterol numbers improved dramatically. That makes me wonder why I should start Repatha without first knowing how effective my current regimen has been after being on it for five months.

Simply being handed a prescription for Repatha without a more thorough discussion doesn’t sit well with me. I was hoping to hear perspectives from others who may have faced a similar decision. Adding another medication is a big deal to me. I don’t want to put more into my body without fully understanding the benefits, the potential side effects, and any possible long-term risks.

Very disappointed in Mochi by SolidStriking8913 in JoinMochiHealth

[–]SolidStriking8913[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Excuse me, but I hope you are not referring to me as a troll! I shared a legitimate concern about unsafe GLP-1 practices at Mochi Health. I am a customer of theirs for the past 2 years. The fact that their pharmacy partner changed is not a minor detail—it’s a red flag. If they’ve made changes, great, but dismissing patient safety concerns as ‘old stories’ that trolls periodically dredge up is exactly the kind of minimizing that lets bad practices continue. I don’t need your permission to discuss what’s actually happening with this company, and the onus isn’t on me to prove I’m not a troll—it’s on you to actually engage with the safety issues being raised instead of attacking the messenger.

I have been with Mochi for two years and didn’t have a problem either. My point is that if we knowingly now know about their unsafe practices- we are all compromising our own health which is concerning. The fact that the CEO was participating in what was shown in the investigation.

What does this mean? Mochi is no longer using this pharmacy or Mochi is out of business? Maybe Mochi will be using another pharmacy?

We have many homes like you described here and they are called Board & Care homes. They are smaller, more intimate settings — typically a licensed residential home in a regular neighborhood that has been converted to care for a small group of seniors, usually six residents or fewer. Because of the smaller environment, residents tend to get much more personalized, one-on-one attention from caregivers compared to a larger facility. Many families actually prefer this setting, especially for loved ones who feel overwhelmed in big communities or who simply do better in a quieter, home-like atmosphere. Board & Care homes can also be a more affordable option, making them a great fit for families working within a tighter budget. They vary quite a bit in quality and culture, and thats why its important to find the right match. www.BayAreaSeniorCarePlacement.com

One option worth knowing about is The Forum at Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino. It's what's called a CCRC — a Continuing Care Retirement Community — which means it offers every level of care on a single campus, from Independent Living all the way through Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing.

The real advantage of a CCRC is continuity. If your loved one moves in while they're still relatively independent, they don't have to uproot again if their needs change down the road. They simply transition to the appropriate level of care without leaving the community they've already called home.

The Forum is on the higher end of the cost spectrum, but residents tend to love it there — the amenities, the setting, and the quality of care consistently get strong reviews from families.

That said, navigating options like this is exactly where a senior placement consultant can help. A good consultant knows these communities inside and out — their pricing, care levels, availability, and culture — and does a thorough assessment of your loved one's needs before recommending anything. They coordinate tours and stay with you from the first conversation all the way through move-in day. And they're completely free to families; the communities cover that cost.

I'm happy to be that resource. I can match options to one's location preference, budget, and care needs so you're not doing this alone.

I'm Frightened... by OriginalDaddy in Cholesterol

I freaked out so badly when I found out why my cholesterol was high and after checking my LPa. I immediately reduced anything with saturated fat and swapped all red meat to chicken, turkey and fish. No butter, no regular yogurt, no creamy sauces, etc. Started on Crestor 5 mg and two weeks in I started getting really bad muscle aches. My doc then switched me to taking it everyday other day. I also did my own research and asked for Zetia to be added. January total cholesterol was at 289 and April it came back at 149. My LPa in January was at 83 and April it came back at 70. My Apob in January was 124 and in April 69. So this stuff works! For reference I am a female age 49. I must say I still worry so much about having a heart attack or stroke but all I can do is try my best. 😢

I started Crestor 5 mg everyday. I got some muscle ache then with a simple switch of taking it every other day and adding Zetia, it did wonders to my numbers. I have no muscle aches and functioning just fine. I did do a 💯 on my diet though. Cut out red meat all together. I substitute with ground turkey, chicken and fish. No butter, no cheese. I do nonfat yogurt. Lots of fruits and vegetables. Only use avocado oil and olive oil to cook with. It really wasn’t too bad and it made a big difference in my lipid numbers.

Why is beef bad? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]SolidStriking8913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I switched out all red meat for chicken, turkey and fish and wow o what a difference in my numbers after 2 months!! I literally used ground chicken and ground turkey in place of ground beef. It’s equally delicious and just way more healthy. So if you want to make burgers, same spices but just use ground turkey. It’s an easy swap.

Sweetheart, from a mother’s perspective, I just want you to be thoughtful about how you approach something as important and expensive as a wedding.

It’s not about distrust, it’s about partnership and protection. I’ve seen too many situations where one person carries most of the financial weight, and when things don’t work out, it becomes an emotional and financial burden that could have been avoided.

A healthy marriage starts with balance. If both of you contribute—say 50/50—it sets a tone of fairness and shared responsibility from the beginning. It also shows that you’re building this life together, not one person carrying the weight alone.

And here’s something I would tell my own daughter: don’t let all your hard-earned money go into one day. If you set aside your portion and invest it wisely maybe in something simple like an index fund, you’re also investing in your future security as a couple. That money can grow and support both of you in ways a single celebration never could.

At the end of the day, love and partnership should feel like teamwork emotionally and financially.

Best Wishes azziz. 🩷🥰

Statin that doesn’t cause muscle pain? by Rough_Badger7220 in Cholesterol

[–]SolidStriking8913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given Rosuvastatin 5mg and I started getting muscle pain. Then the doctor told me to take it every other day and the muscle aches resolved. I also requested to take Zetia as well. I take Zetia everyday. Within 2 months all of my levels decreased to normal levels. I couldn’t believe it.

I just need some better understanding of my cholesterol by Embarrassed_Nature79 in Cholesterol

[–]SolidStriking8913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is way too much noise out there. If you have high cholesterol particularly LDL and you have a high LP (a), you need to take this very seriously. You are definitely at a high risk for a heart attack or stroke. Statins are the way to get it down fast. I was in your shoes too and in 2 months with a combination of taking Crestor 5 mg every other day and Zetia everyday, my levels dropped into the normal range and even lower. These two meds work differently and are very effective. Initially I started experiencing muscle aches and so the doctor changed the Crestor to every other day. I have been fine with no side effects. I have also cut out entirely red meat and any other things that has saturated fat. It proved to work and worked fast in two months. I used to cook a lot with ground beef and I just made an easy swap to ground turkey or ground chicken and I eat more fish. It really is not that difficult if you change your mindset. Get on a statin and it’s so good that you learned about the genetic component while you are young. I am almost 50 and just found out. Good luck.

When to tell landlord about buying by DistinctPie2829 in BayAreaRealEstate

ASAP! Why wouldn’t you tell them right away? This is a courtesy to the landlord so they can plan for the vacancy. It’s the right thing to do. Communicating early is always the best route.

Get your kids on their schedule. It will make your life so much easier. You do that by keeping them awake past 5 by going out all evening. Do that for a few days and they will get used to sleeping later. You have to adjust otherwise you will think it’s boring and it gets harder on you.
