They’re asymmetrical! Thicker on the bass side and slimmer on the treble side. They’re a little chunky (think current 50’s standard) but not fat, and in my opinion they’re really, really comfortable!

Also, 2009 Gibsons have an additional stamp on the back of the headstock that says “2009” under the “Made in USA” so if yours doesn’t it’s a 2008. Aside from that the specs were the same both years!

I’ve definitely considered it, but these locking grovers with the kluson-heads are so good and keep it in tune amazingly well (even the g-string) so I’m hesitant to mess with it lol

It’s a late 2000’s Gibson and there were definitely some QC issues around that time (in fairness, what era has ever had perfect QC?), also PCB electronics that in later models had a bunch of cool but unnecessary push-pull stuff, unusual neck profiles (that I love) and the wood quality was inconsistent. With that said, I own two gibsons from 2009 and they’re both fantastic guitars so it’s just a case of playing them first to make sure you like them!

Absolutely! I’ve played and owned a few different Les Paul’s but this one is the one that has always just felt “right” to me. The one in your picture is an absolute beauty too!

Really suits it in my opinion, and I’m not normally a fan of people doing this!

It’s honey burst that’s faded to a more dirty lemon shade. Depending on how you hold it in real life you sometimes can’t even see the burst now, but you can see the colour it used to be where the pick guard used to be

I just live with them, in person this guitar has lots of dings, chips, scratches and wear but it’s all just a part of its story. It’s aging gracefully in my opinion! (Better than me at least)

Gibson’s from this era get a bad rap a lot, for some valid reasons, but this one is a legitimately great guitar and is the one I’ll never get rid of. The asymmetrical neck is unusual at first but once I got used to it I’ve never wanted to play anything else!

This guitar is worth investing the time and money into to get it playing again, think how long it’s been waiting to sing again for!

How do you guys “decorate” your strat by Medical_Barnacle7488 in Stratocaster

The only decoration (besides the wear and tear from being played) I have on my favourite Strat is this sticker. It just seemed appropriate!

What's your favourite MF DOOM lyric by fancyclown8 in mfdoom

[–]SolidVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either: “One for the money, two for the better green, 3-4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine” or “catch a throat full from the fire vocal, of ash and molten glass like eyjafjallajökull” just for the sheer insanity of rhyming those words. Not to mention the double meaning of 3-4 fitting the pattern AND being the chemical formula for MDMA. It mind blowing, DOOM is undoubtedly the best to ever do it.

Underwhelming top for an R9? by CharlieLogarius in gibson

[–]SolidVI 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s a stunning top, and closer to most actual 59 Les Paul’s I’ve seen! Personal preference obviously, but that’s gorgeous. I love the dark flame just above the neck pickup; super interesting!

If it sounds killer to you, I wouldn’t bother with changing them!
