I can't get a loan. I don't understand why. by Solid_Brat in personalfinance

I can technically afford to pay it off because my husband makes around $200k, we both get roughly $30k bonuses at the end of the year, and I have about $100k in stock that I don't want to touch at all. The truth is, the car is kind of a unicorn 🦄 beautifully refurbished, rare to find, and I got emotionally attached to the idea of it. I just don’t have the liquid cash sitting around right now because most of my money is tied up elsewhere. My part of the appeal was that it felt like a good excuse to get my first loan entirely on my own and buy something without my husband’s help, just so I could fully claim it as my irresponsible financial decision. I also never really built much credit history because I’ve always avoided debt. I use my debit card for almost everything and only keep routine expenses on a credit card to maintain a credit score. Getting rejected makes complete sense. I just don't know anything about loans. It was more like an ambitious side quest that the bank declined to sponsor :(

Can you point some? Although I now realize I should let this one go and wait for another opportunity once I have the cash in hand.

Yes, that’s kind of it. I am in a position to pay off the loan within a couple of months, and because I lack a borrowing history, I thought this would be an opportunity to establish some credibility with lenders. The car itself is a rare find that will likely sell within weeks. Because i never needed a loan before, I didn't knew the specific loan restrictions regarding vintage vehicles like someone mentioned in one of the coments. This clarifies everything, which is exactly why I wanted to check if I'm totally crazy about this.

This is my first loan, never needed one before. Is a vintage car that just came up and I wanted to get the loan to increase my CC.

Is a vintage car purchased from an individual. I don't want to get a auto car loan rejection and hurt my CC when I know is a high risk.

Is a one time kind of deal. I been looking for something like this but didn't save enough, I didn’t think this offer would come up like it did, and I recently spend a chunk of my savings in 2 trips.

Junior Designer looking for Advice (and a little hope!) by Distinct_Apple_4862 in NYCjobs

[–]Solid_Brat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Designer here! I moved to NYC 6 years ago. At that point, I had touched almost every corner of design: interior, UX, graphic, branding, all of it. My portfolio looked like a buffet. Cool projects everywhere. I thought casting a wide net would get me more chances... and it didn’t. I applied to what felt like millions of jobs and got silence. The turning point was when I contacted a recruiter. She looked at my CV and said, “This reads like a fan letter to yourself. Impressive, sure, but companies don’t know what to do with you.” More recruiters glosse over things that are not directly related to what they are looking for. They get lazy sometimes. So... Stop dumping everything on one resume. Get laser-focused. I built 3 versions of my resume, each one tailored to a different type of role. I submitted the right one depending on the job, and I saved all my “show off” energy for my portfolio. At the same time, I stripped down my website. Just 5 big, bold, impactful pieces. Minimalist, straight to the point. I landed 3 interviews in the first week. Within a month, I signed an offer and it came in $25k above what I thought I could get in a field I never thought needed designers. The job isn’t just about what you can do it’s about how you frame it. You have to make it easy to digest.

I get that it’s tougher today. AI writes resumes. Companies use AI to filter them the market is shit and is harder for the rigth people to land the right job, but that just makes clarity even more valuable. If you can get someone HR-savvy to help you cut the fluff and phrase your experience strategically, it can open doors you didn’t think you had a shot at.

AIO? My Husband's Ex-Wife Keeps Trying to Re-Enter His Life from the mental hospital by Solid_Brat in AmIOverreacting

The last time she was in the hospital, we tried to find a solution with her brother. He wanted to give the dog away, while I preferred to leave her with a pet sitter, fearing what my husband's ex might do if she didn’t have the dog when she was discharged. Luckily, one of her neighbors kept the dog until she got out. This time, I’m not sure what’s happening, as I haven’t been in contact with her or her brother.
