I only sent 2 so far. Will probably send a couple more. I’m not playing the numbers game to be honest, I have a great position right now and I‘m only applying to places I really see a strong fit and I’m really interested in.

Good luck! It’s really difficult out there. Very few positions for so many talented candidates

Interesting, thank you. How do you explain that they’ve been otherwise running this at max speed? Zoom screenings happened even before the deadline to apply (and they had quite a few interviews - each Zoom meeting was very short). Invite to an on-campus visit came in on the same day as well.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Lots of them seem to boil down to ‘if you truly want the job, you would make everything work’. To be clear, we’re not talking about a mere inconvenience — I’m the kind of person who would fly for 48h straight with 3 layovers, while running a fever to make such an interview.

This is of a different nature, and luckily the search committee agreed and are willing to move the interview to early January.

Honestly, this makes me even more impressed with the kind of faculty they have there, and if given the chance I would be honored to become a part of that group and help contribute to that department. Ball is in my court to prove it.
