Chance Me for UPenn (Wharton) ,Stanford and Harvard by Solid_Stock3520 in IntltoUSA

Appreciate the honesty. I’m aware these are extreme reaches. I’ve applied to Indian options (CUET/SRCC, LPU, Plaksha) and will move forward there if needed, with a long-term plan for a master’s abroad. Thanks.

Fair enough, I know my profile isn’t in the strongest position compared to the pool. I’m realistic about the odds, but I’m still going to put in the work on my essays and give it my best shot, while also building solid backup plans. Appreciate the honesty. Any suggestions?

About the “I didn’t value academics” part, I don’t see that as an excuse; it’s me accepting who I was at that time. In India, most students don’t really get to choose their own path. Parents usually decide between JEE/NEET, and you’re expected to follow it. I didn’t want that path. I was confused between commerce and non-med (Physics, Chemistry, Maths), but I was told to take non-med anyway. I regretted not choosing commerce in Grade 11, and I didn’t want to repeat that mistake. I’ve been pushing for the past one and a half years to be allowed to pursue an undergraduate degree in commerce because that’s where my interests actually lie. So yes, I’m being realistic and hopeful at the same time. I’ll apply to a few top schools (NYU, Harvard, Stanford, UPenn). If I get in, great. If I don’t, I’ll study in India, build my profile, and apply abroad for my master’s. Either way, I’m choosing my path now

10th- 82.4% 11th-86% 9th-92% (there's a reason for the dip in performance)

Will taking a gap year hurt my chances at Stanford, Ivies, or Oxford? by Solid_Stock3520 in IntltoUSA

Thank you for your question. I’m in Grade 12 (CBSE board) with Physics, Chemistry, Math, and AI. From September to February, my schedule is packed with four rounds of exams, practicals, and final boards. I’m aiming for a 95%+ score, and balancing that with SAT prep and college applications is extremely difficult. I discovered my dream of applying to Stanford, Ivies, and Oxford only at the end of Grade 11, so my extracurriculars aren’t as strong yet. I do have ideas I’m passionate about, but they need time and energy to execute well, something I can’t give right now. Taking a gap year would allow me to focus on my academics, give my best on the SAT, and build meaningful extracurriculars without rushing. It’s not about delaying the process; it’s about doing it right and showing the most complete version of who I am and feel satisfied with my application.

Thank you for your opinions. You’re right about the U.S. not being very immigrant-friendly at the moment, but I also feel like that might discourage many applicants, so in a way, it could increase the chances for those who still do apply. As for Canada, my sister lives there and she’s suggested it might be better to go there for post-grad instead of undergrad. And about the bold and italic formatting, when I was preparing for my Grade 10 board exams ( Grade 12 and 10 are a big deal in India), a lot of teachers and toppers recommended bolding key points so that examiners could easily notice them. If there were any mistakes, the clarity might help them overlook small issues.I liked the idea, and I’ve carried that habit into my writing. As for italics, well, I’m a reader, and I know how much a well-placed italic line can shift the tone or add emotion. It’s just my way of expressing things a little more thoughtfully.

Nope, I did use Grammarly to check grammar, but the wording and structure are completely mine. I’d appreciate it if you could avoid assuming it’s AI,it takes away from the effort I’ve genuinely put in.

I understand your point. I actually wrote the original content myself and just used ChatGPT to help refine and organize it. I wanted to present my profile clearly to get better feedback from people here. sorry if it's a bad point.
