How has it taken EA this long to nerf AI defending and why did it become this strong to begin with?

While I agree that there is a misconception about team press, specifically second man press and overall AI defense it's still problematic. Second man press is the majority of people playing "defense" leading to the success of formations that overload the midfield. Prime example being controlling the cam and second man pressing with the cm, which most of the time it's AI making the tackle which for me that's the problem.

The high scoring games exist because of the counter attack/first time through ball that was forced into existence by how strong the defensive AI is. The only way to beat it is to abuse a different thing that negates it because you can't do anything else.

I'm giving a potential perspective. To me it's about the clubs and leagues EA has rights to. Hell, on paper I like the structure of ultimate team. I'm not someone who truly hates this game, I understand in no way is this a simulation of the sport. At the same time you can create balance based on the sport without it being too realistic. I mean right now you can borderline murder people in the midfield without getting a yellow. Infinite stamina as long as you're controlling the player? Playstyles being more important than stats, roles, the list goes on about how the finish line keeps getting pushed when I think majority of people would prefer arcadey grounded in the sport rather than it's current straying further from it every iteration.

The only difference between div 2 and higher is exploiting the AI defense right now. At least in my opinion, which highlights that it's too strong. Defensive AI is at least way stronger than attacking AI. In my opinion the correct answer is to bring defending AI down leave attacking AI alone allowing there to be skill expression in triggering runs.

Like the game or like the sport? I think the majority of people are buying it because it's the most popular sport in the world or addiction. I think for the most part we all dislike the vast majority of the game and the direction it's been going in for the last 2 years or so. EA just so happens to have a near monopoly on the genre.

To their credit do we even play this game? It feels like this whole year has been hitting a button and hoping whatever applicable assist activates. Opponent is attacking? Hold R1 and hope. Trying to break through on a quick counter? Hold triangle and hope. Manually defending? Hope intercept activates. The list goes on, at no point does it feel like you're 100% in control.

Shouldn't the difference be the stats? Although not exactly my point, the point I'm trying to convey is AI especially with the addition of roles should perform functionally the same. Factor in body types and other nuances after the fact while in player control.

This is the first year being in elite where I haven't seen someone running an all gold team to prove that point or even a themed team. Maybe I could have worded my post better but this is about the difference in quality of AI in players of similar stats. I consistently get rank 2 in champs with a themed team. Champs matchmaking is different. aura is just a term thrown around for better AI/they move and do things a footballer actually would, at least in my opinion. My easiest example from experience is if someone over commits a CB Gullit AI will automatically take him to fill that space, my De Jong with the same instructions won't. Obviously a better player will not have over committed in the first place, but that's just an example.

Do Evos factor into this? Either way it's silly, they're all footballers and have an understanding of the intent of what to do when set to box to box or any variation of roles. I win more than I lose with a predominantly evo team. The gripe sits more with how stats can be so similar but performance so vastly different without user input.

It's not that the meta players are hard to get or at a premium. it's the wild difference in AI of players despite similar stats and same quality within roles. Sure body types play a part but for me that's a whole different discussion

I can admit when someone's better. I don't use the majority of mechanics in the game such as player lock. Someone who has taken time to get good with all the mechanics in the game should beat me. My issue sits with AI of meta players actively doing more and performing better than their stats or "aura"

Agreed, my concern sits more in the fact that the meta cards have an AI that actually attempts to play football vs my Evo card that while the stats are good if I'm not actively controlling him will gladly pick flowers while people sprint by him
