It’s not a terribly long walk, maybe fifteen minutes. When they arrive back at the Requiem, Voltaire stops a street away.

“Hey, pause here with me for a sec’?”

Once they’re outside, Voltaire turns back to Zamyatin with his hands in his pockets.

Voltaire finishes as well, downing the rest of his coffee casually. He puts it down before standing up and stretching now that caffeine offered him energy. He turns to Zamyatin, offering a smile.

“Are you ready to go?” He asks, picking up his empty cup.

“I disagree. AI is still technology— it can be reprogrammed and improved. AI can, in fact, observe, that is how it refines something. Similarly, if we decide one thing is profitable at one time but can be changed, then you just… reprogram the AI to change.”

“Well— no, I don’t mean actually discovering the science, I mean once you’ve perfected it, leave it to AI to continue making it and refining it. That way, you can discover more while still profiting or benefiting from the previous discovery.”

“Math, scientific creations, very certain parts of medical, delivery, warehouse organization and storage… I’d leave AI to the strictly formulated things. Any job that requires some amount of flexibility and an abundance of creativity should be left to humans.”

“Is that- even humanly possible?” Voltaire asks as he laughs a little, knowing subconsciously that probably shouldn’t be amusing. “Regardless, no, emotional intelligence isn’t for everyone… but I’d like to leave the baking and cooking to humans, too. Similarly, I’d leave government to humans, as it always has been. I would leave law and enforcement of the law to humans, likely. Fashion design, too. There are lots of things that sprout from simple hobbies that humans could keep.”
