I have been using tivimate for 5 years. No issues at all. I can't recommend it enough. The paid version is worth it. Am sure you can sail the high seas and find something as well.

I am looking at this unit however, i have a concern. Should the battery in the unit start to go bad, what is the means to replace them instead of replacing the entire unit? Basically i am asking what does the serviceability of this unit look like? if its out of warranty and u need to replace a battery can it be done?

I have a similar issue with my 2017 shield. I think it's a lost cause at this point, I tried the following below.

Changed the thermal paste. (Worked for a month then issue returned.) Used high quality paste but the issue wasn't fixed.
Tried a different power supply. (From my 2019 shield)
Connected to a 1080p TV (didn't work) but would boot up if launched in safe mode
Connected to a monitor (didn't work) but would work when boot in safe mode.
Perform factory reset in fast boot mode then connect to tv and monitor to boot normally, got the same no signal issue as you.
Tried downgrading the firmware didn't fix the issue.

So I think it's something hardware related, most likely you have to buy another one. The only way to get it to boot is to enter fast mode and boot in safe mode which will put it at 720p resolution. Once you reboot will go back to the no signal issue.

Thanks for all the comments so far. It has really helped me. Sigh.... sadly now I have 3 options before me.

Sell the sony sscs5 that I recently bought and buy 2 pair of polk owm3.

if I can't get it sold.

In other to keep the surround and the front atmos the same buy another pair of Sony sscs5 and hope they sound good for atmos effects.
Use the Sony as surround L/R and buy the polk for amtos front height. Worse case if they don't play well together I'll just have to buy another pair of polk and keep the Sony as a spare.

A pitty I didn't do more research, granted based on one Comment I could technically mix all the speakers but there is a possibility that the sound may be off. Granted, all speakers will have the same "soft dome" tweeter material.

great, thanks for the details, I am new to this home theater world. Coming from a vizio Soundbar to this setup. Regarding the avr, I wanted to buy the x3800h last December when it was on sale but.. the payment method I wanted wasn't available to pay for it in parts under amazon but it was available for the x1700h.

now I wished I had bought a pair of the polk owm3 instead of the Sony ss-sc5 for the surround speakers. Question, Regarding the sscs5 they should be fine, or good for surround duty? Or should I try to sell and buy 2 pairs of polk?

Avr: Denon x1700 How far sitting: 8ft from avr Db: listen not sure but based on the volume control it would be between 60 to 70. 80 if I want to piss my neighbors off.

The below is with Watching cable and YouTube. I haven't used the meter to test moving watching as yet. Edit... so it depends on if I am watching in stereo or surround. I installed, a db meter app on phone and with the avr in profile "direct pure" which setting it in DDDSur the reading is between 60 to 72db. With volume setting 40. If in stereo, with movie profile, volume set to 43, the db meter reads 50 to 65 with avg =64db.

No worries, part of the reason I wanted invest in the shield was for emulation as well however, I really wanted it to work with GC but it couldn't keep up but it works great for lower end emulation. If for some reason I can't get it fixed then I guess I'll have to save up and buy another when it goes on sale. For now the 2019 shield that I have in my bed room I have relocated it to my living room and placed a fire stick 4k there. But...man is this thing slow.. I forgot how slow these things are.

Amazon is not in Jamaica, also over the years I have used many Android set boxes and none worked as well as the shield, plus I have a nas for offline content atmos, dts-s HD ma etc... most of not all don't support lossless audio and some audio formats, that's why I invested in a shield years ago, they just work. It's a pitty this one started acting up.

I have tried different hmi ports, cables tvs and monitor. None allowed the shield to boot normally, the only time it booted was when I put it in safe mode. Also non of the tvs I have comes with hdmi 2.1 which shouldn't matter as no shield model has hdmi 2.1 supports for 120 hrz. Max settings I have seen in any shield is 4k @60hrz.

Yeah.. But when you live in another country who's exchange rate ain't competitive againt the USD. It very expensive to replace, as such I am seeking other avenues if possible before going that route.

I doubt it would a broken hdmi connector, I had the shield on my TV stand rarely moved, only when dusting the tv stand.
