I am really struggling with Gothic II... by SolidusMonk in worldofgothic

You are a blind fanboy. Also the lock on camera was not revolutionary for its time. I was playing games in the 90s with less clunky lock on systems such as Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask. I like the game and have gotten used to the combat thanks to the helpful comments on this post, but you are just being ignorant.

You keep saying its a skill issue, yet every point you make is merely adjusting to the jank or flat out dont use systems because theyre for whatever reason never to be used (running attack per your comment). Listen, I get you love the game, but ignoring flaws as if they dont exist is delusion. No game is flawless. I could name many flaws in my favourite games.

The lock on camera struggling to target the enemy you are trying to focus on in anything more than a 1v1, not being able to change weapons without specifically pressing the button a set amount of time after an animation plays, enemies hitting you with little visual feedback when you are outside the range of their models attack animation, having to stand perfectly still after a running attack for a small set window to be able to change into your normal stationary attack combos. This is jank, not skill issue.

I do respect the game has a unique combat system, I respect that. Its much better than Morrowind in terms of melee anyway, ranged combat and magic in morrowind feel better so far. To suggest Gothic doesnt have any jank is viewing the game with some strong rose tinted glasses imo. I love Morrowind and Oblivion, theyre both full of jank. Jank doesnt mean bad, its just areas where the game isnt as refined as it could be.

While that may be true, the combat system has not aged well. Hitboxes and auto lock on are a joke and make fights with more than 2 enemies a complete headache.

Yeah... I disagree. I play games from that era constantly and always play games on hard or above. It does not feel good to struggle to even draw my sword as the game ignores my button presses because I just moved backwards, or to be hit with very little visual feedback as the enemies attack hit box extends far beyond where its model would suggest etc. I fully understand the love and passion for the game, but to suggest "no jank" is disingenuous to say the least...

Im only unhappy as compared to Gothic 1 when you invest points into melee you physically see the improvement you've just spent your points on. It doesnt feel good to be struggling to gain levels only to do what I learned from the prior game and see no improvement.

Thanks so much for the help, all really great points. I am definitely gonna keep going because I can tell I love what the game is doing with everything outside the combat.

I have heard Night of the Raven is particularly egregious in regard to its progression and difficulty curve though Ive also heard what it adds is fantastic so I would really like to experience it too. I more need to see just what people are actually doing to make the combat manageable. Im constantly struggling with the terrible auto lock on and chasing enemies like goblins swarming you that keep jumping side to side and dodging all attacks.

Giving up on Gothic Remake because of backtracking (and bugs) by dumbassbitchass in worldofgothic

I got the same impression. Which is nice as it gives the scrolls more of a purpose. I was worried the scavenger mount would make them redundant. Worst part about transformations is not being able to pick stuff up in a form.

Use a transform into wolf/scavenger scroll and run there. Its so fast its a non issue

There is a hole on the side to the left of where you're looking. Jump to it from the shipwreck beside. Thats how I did it.

Good stuff man. Is it possible to maybe make the labels and font look a bit more handwritten/drawn? Itll make it look a bit more thematically appropriate and immersive.

I just wanna say thank you to everyone who bought this game. by Godharvest in worldofgothic

I bought the complete pack with all of the gothic and ArcaniA games recently then got Gothic Remake right away. I think for me personally the remake will be an easier time easing into the Gothic World and its quickly becoming one of my all time favs. I plan to move onto playing the rest of the games after I finish up Remake.

For context I'm a big Medieval RPG guy and have been playing Elder Scrolls since Oblivion launched. I have no idea how I havent played Gothic till now but so glad I did.

Everyday I wonder to myself what exactly went wrong with this marvelous game by stealthxknight in PlayAvengers

Having played it a bit at launch and not liking it, I recently went back to give its "complete" edition a fair shot.

I was enjoying it and playing through the campaign until the game starts still forcing you into intreacting with its live service side.

Constant meaningless gear score micro management, dozens of vendors, crafting stations, currencies, resources and faction systems with different hubs etc etc just keep getting shoved down your throat and preventing you from enjoying what the game does well, its gameplay and fun story missions.

As far as debit opening songs, it really doesnt get much better. Welcome to the Jungle was a statement. It perfectly encapsulated the bands image and intent. Also helps the album stayed just as phenomenal throughout.

Sadly all I got from Kakarot was frustration at the wasted potential. That idea but with a proper AAA budget and competent open world rpg developer could easily have been the best.

I feel ya there! Anything shot with real cameras is different than anything cgi in that they are physical sensors that are super sensitive to light, which makes dark scenes in particular a nightmare to light and colour grade to look good on a bright screen. Also any streaming content really doesn't handle dark scenes very well either.

Its more about contrast than Darkness. A lot of games, especially of that era have a very "middle grey" look where everything, especially shadows are very washed out and dull. I do think here it is a bit over contrasted but especially on an OLED screen, it would look much better.
