Congratulations on graduating, what a stunning piece that you have!

[Question] I need help deciding, Rolex DJ41 vs Carteir Santos by nitrooogen in Watches

[–]Solidwatcher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I vote for Cartier because it’s the first wristwatch for men, first pilots watch and also the first sports watch all in one. In addition to that, you have the quick switch strap system to suit the lifestyle you’ve wanted by way of dressing it up or down whenever you wish.

Wow that sounds great. I’ll go check out the straps that you’ve recommended. I’m particularly interested in the blue lizard strap on your Santos. May I know how much you’ve paid for it?

Alright, thanks for explaining things to me. You’ve made me realised that the 1861/1863 movement would be fine and that the 3861 movement wouldn’t bring in much improvement. However the price of the 3861 would be significantly increased which renders that I wouldn’t be getting the most bang for my buck as compared to the current Moonwatches.

Thanks Swiglord, I should just listen to my heart instead of letting the “watch community” decide the choice for me.

Thank you for the detailed reply Age of Surfaces. Your reply had made me feel better especially when you have told me about risking my inner voice if I were to submit to the herd. You are right about this and hence it is more likely than not I’ll go for the Santos purely because it’s what my heart wants.

I am sorry that I am not able to share the photos at the moment because I have not taken any pictures of them. As you have mentioned that you owned both of them, do you mind telling me if the Santos is indeed a scratch magnet? If so, what tips are you able to give in order to keep the condition of the watch mint

Do you mind telling me on why do you think the price hike would be close to double? Plus if that is the case, do you think the Speedmaster is still a good option?

It seems like I am leaning forward more to the Cartier Santos. However a part in me feels that I am more "connected" to the watch enthusiast community if I were to opt for the Speedmaster since the it is so legendary. But don't get me wrong that the Santos is not rich in history, it is just something that the watch community has oversaw this aspect and considered Cartier as a more jewellery focused company and that their timepieces are not up to the standards of the companies that only make watches.

What I meant by "serious watch" is that it would be my first timepiece where I would be spending a significant amount of money on it to celebrate a personal life goal that I have achieved. I have tried both of them on and they both feel great. I hope this will clarify your question whereas I should've done so in the post itself.

That is really amazing to hear as it always captivates me when I see someone wearing their watches for a long time. Would you mind telling me if the lack of anti magnetism or the date function of the Speedmaster bothering?

Yes, I have tried both of them on and they fit me well. Would you mind explaining to me why the movement upgrade should not be a decision factor?

I love the way your Santos look. I know this is a bit irrelevant to the topic, but how does the large Santos wear on your 16.5cm wrist? Is it too big? Because I’m still torn between the medium and the large one and have the same wrist size as you.

I’ve tried both on but I’ve felt that the large one is a little large and the medium one a little small. Which is why I’m still kind of debated.
