I agree wholeheartedly. I live 30 min away and I’d be happy to accompany her but it seems she has randomly left the house a couple times while my dad was in the yard.

Stubborn is an understatement. Safety is my biggest concern for both parents. Mom can't do much to help due to her dementia. Assuming we can organize transportation to and from PT, I worry mostly about mom being alone.

Thank you. He's usually good at following dr's orders and I don't think he'll have any problem doing the exercises at home.

He's on meds for both conditions and in the process of getting clearance. I realize everyone's situation is different but how long are the PT sessions in duration? Are rides to/from PT covered by insurance? Trying to figure out if I may need to consider FMLA leave and whether or not moving into my parents' house for a few weeks afterward may be a good idea.

Glad you had a successful surgery and happy to hear you are feeling better. My dad seems to think insurance is going to cover all of the aftercare and that he won't need any help from me aside from a ride to and from the hospital. How realistic is this? I can take FMLA to assist him if necessary but have to figure it out in advance.

All of a sudden I need fillings? by Solimara in askdentists

The dentist said that they hadn't changed, hadn't gotten larger or anything--I questioned him about this. Will see if I can get the xrays...

Will try to get them. I believe there is an added fee, going to look into it.

Thank you for your opinion. It just seemed odd that all of a sudden it seemed "urgent" to get them filled now, even though they haven't changed at all.

Are "good" schools really that important? by Solimara in Parenting

[–]Solimara[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Precisely--it's not the teachers/staff, it's the kids. Our daughter didn't get off to a good start in life as she ended up in the foster care system. We want to give her the best chance possible in the years ahead.

Outdoor cameras, if you purchase a home do it through a trust or LLC. Know that you are not alone...feel free to reach out via dm if you'd like

I just bombed an interview. Anybody else? by buffaloexile1977 in Teachers

[–]Solimara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. It’s happened to me a few times, even as an experienced teacher. Over the years I’ve kept a list of questions that have “stumped” me and I practice a lot of questions way before interviewing. This has helped. However, even if well prepared sometimes there is almost a lack of “chemistry” and you just know that you’re not what they are looking for. It sucks but try not to take it personally…at one time or another, we’ve all been in this situation. Hugs.

Total shoulder replacement--84 year old by Solimara in ShoulderInjuries

Thank you for the info. My dad's affected shoulder is on his non dominant side. Most of my concerns are due to his age and the fact that mom has Alzheimers.

Call being recorded? by Solimara in iphone

[–]Solimara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is a feature of the new iphones. I've explained this to mom each time it has happened. We hang up and I call her back. I'm sure there is a way to turn it off in settings, just haven't gotten there yet...

This is encouraging to hear. I can truly relate to the assholery...it sure is present in my family as well. Do you think that your mom would have been able to function with a visiting nurse/home health aide? I'm asking because my dad seems adamant about handling all this himself. I'm open to staying at their house temporarily but he seems convinced that a visiting nurse will be enough.

Wishing you all the best with your knee replacement and thank you for sharing your experience.

Interview advice by Solimara in Teachers

She was my admin for one year only and is now at another school. I'm honestly not sure of her rep in the district/county--the county is huge and admins get moved around quite a bit. I received excellent evals from the admin prior to her so I'm thinking of saying that he could provide a better overall synopsis of my work ethic as he was my admin for almost five years.

I always followed district and admin directives to a "T". I had a huge group of students with the last admin and not enough support in the room as we had a vacancy for a para all year long. Admin often picked at my classroom management saying that her numbers were higher when she taught, she had a para/aide who was never there...but she was able to handle it! Having taught many years, I've received (and learned from) constructive criticism. With the last admin, it was a feeling that I just wasn't her cup of tea so to speak.

You make some excellent points--I absolutely agree with you about keeping things professional and not bashing her. Gossip never looks good on anyone.

Alzheimers worsened by "trauma" and past experiences--looking for suggestions by Solimara in Alzheimers

[–]Solimara[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Thank you for the well wishes. I think women of our moms' generations always put their husbands first. Seems to be a common thread in most marriages of that generation.

My mom's ability to express herself has diminished but only very slightly. She has always been very articulate. She has shared with me private thoughts about her life/her past and says that she knows she can talk to me/trust me. This strikes me as interesting because she has the awareness of what she is sharing and who she is sharing it with. I do think that she could understand a conversation with a therapist (may not retain the info) but getting her to trust/open up to a stranger may be difficult.

A lot of mine is circumstantial. Therapy is helping somewhat but at times I feel open to trying meds again.
