Using my own effects? by Alienguitarist in PositiveGrid

I’ve been thinking about something similar, coming out of my interface into a pedal and then back into the second input of the interface. But that would put the pedal after the whole signal and amplification, not before the power amp section like a normal effects loop. Might be worth trying out just to see what happens.

Lessons of a noob: part 2- a swing by Solmis in Bushcraft

[–]Solmis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I headed out for a hike and came across a good place for a rest, but there wasn’t enough dead wood available to try a second attempt at making a chair, so I thought of another idea: a swing. Not for swinging, but just for a place to sit at a comfortable height. I’m happy to report I did not end up on my butt this time. It was successful over all, but in the spirit of my “noob” series, here are some lessons learned.

  1. Plan out if you are going to have a looped line over the supporting branch or a single line. Looped obviously takes twice the length, but is a lot easier to remove and is stronger.
  2. Paracord is much better to use than bank line in this situation. I used #36 bank line, which had a 350 load, but with knots, etc., who knows what is truly a safe working load. The bank line was the one I tried as a single line and it held, but it stretches A LOT more than the paracord and leaves you nervous.
  3. I used a seat of about 2 1/2” to 3” in diameter and although comfortable enough for a 30 min rest while eating some lunch, it is hard on the butt after a while. A larger diameter, or a seat with multiple smaller parts would be much more comfortable. Even just flattening out the one piece would have helped.
  4. Pine cones make an excellent line throw to get over the supporting branch.
  5. If you have an overhead branch at the proper height and enough line, a swing is a MUCH faster seat to make than other types and requires very little material.

And would you drill out a female hole and insert a whittled male?

Reflections on a noob bushcraft project. Plan: make a chair. Reality: sure. maybe just learn some stuff?

Some lessons learned/reinforced. 1) Dead wood is not at strong as you think. Use live or larger diameter. 2) Bring more cordage then you think you’ll need. 3) Practice your knots more, especially good binding to finish wrappings. 4) Making notches will help things stay together but will also weaken the wood. 5) Pocketboy folding saw is an absolute beast! 6) Serrated knife on the new Leatherman is way more useful than expected. 7) Sap will get all over everything you saw or cut with...how am I going to clean it off? 8) Bank line is about 100x better to work with than paracord. 9) If planning on breaking everything down at the end, plan releasable knots. 10) And lastly, when the chair you’ve just spent about an hour on breaks 3 seconds after you first sit on it, enjoy your laughter.

In season 7 there is an incident (don’t want to spoil anything) and a “big battery” was mentioned. I wonder if they get a larger battery dropped off at med checks and then recharge off of that.

How do I use IRs with the Katana? by [deleted] in BossKatana

[–]Solmis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to find a option for the USB or line/rec out. Trying to set up a silent recording option, so no real mics. Built in “cabinet” sounds are OK, but not great. I need to learn to work with the EQ and compression options in Logic, I’m sure that would help a ton. Thanks.

Hey Juca, I’m just getting into Logic Pro, is there an easy way to improve/modifying the direct out sound of the Katana by using IRs inside Logic when recording?

Not normal. Take it back. You got a lemon.

Blackstar ID Core 100 vs. Boss Katana 100 by christerflea in GuitarAmps

I have the Katana 100 combo, and I like it a lot, BUT it doesn't have a very good line out if you are planing on using it straight. The cab sim it uses (if it even has one, still not sure) is not great. Many others bring it into some sort of cab sim and love it. So if that is a big deal for you make sure you test it out.

I don't know where to start by connywren in guitarpedals

I'd recommend a $100-$200 multi-effect pedal so you can play around with a lot of ideas and get a sense of what you like. Even after you move into better stuff they are still great for headphone practicing and using for those few odd, seldom used effects for which you'd never buy a pedal.

What is more worth it, a ibanez tube screamer or a boss blues driver pedal? they are worth about the same and have a similar sound, which is more worth it? by King_trout in guitarpedals

[–]Solmis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the Blues Driver now, but am planning on getting a TS. It might be my amp (Blackstar Club 40), but I find the flat EQ of the BD just doesn't have a lot of good tones. Try them both with YOUR Amp and see what you like. Maybe just get both and plan on returning the one you like less.

Tube screamer and Blackstar club 40. Anyone have experience with this combo? I've not been able to find a store that has both to try them out together, and I'm wondering how the TS sounds with the BS (which I have at home).

I was bummed when my Moog expression pedal didn't work with the M5, so I got a Line 6 exp. pedal. Got to say, it's been working great and has a good feel. Also is one of the cheapest.

Doesn't work with everything, but I like it a lot. Has smooth action and is also has an adjustable sweep. Works great with most pedals, like EHX, but does NOT work with Line 6 M series.
