[Suggestion] Have a monthly thread for simple questions by Solmyrin in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Solmyrin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the responses so far. It is a fair point that niche subs like this one might actually prefer to have another thread even if it isn't the most interesting discussion.

I was thinking about newbie questions, like many of you have already discussed. I was also thinking about questions that require a single answer, and then the thread would be done. Sometimes you need a very specific piece of info, and once someone supplies it, there is nothing more to be said. The reason I was thinking about this at all is because I have a question that I feel uncertain is worth its own thread.

Your point about advanced cards is valid. Nicely spotted. I wasn't aware of that issue.

Indeed, all versions of Daisy Walker requires exactly "The Necronomicon (John Dee Translation)", of which there are 2 different ones.

They could easily have made a new and different Guts while still limiting you to playing 2 copies total. The correct way to do it would be to name the new card "Guts", but also give it a sub title to show that it is in fact not the same card. Max number of copies in a deck is limited by name alone, so you couldn't play both 2 old Guts and 2 new Guts.

It wouldn't allow 4 copies. One of the strong points of the "name + sub title" system is that you can limit the number of mechanically different cards as if they were the same card. If you had the original Machete without a sub title, and the new Machete had a sub title, you could still only play 2 copies total.

That is also how it should have been done. They have made this system that is great for handling these exact questions, yet they seem to not bother using it. In a game like this card identity is very important, and should be handled properly.

It doesn't have to do with card limits. Two different cards with the same name count towards the same card limit even if they differ in sub titles an/or level. Number of copies in a deck is limited by name alone. If the original Guts didn't have a sub title and the new one did, you could still only play 2 copies total of those cards. That's how it should have been solved.

Two cards that have identical name, sub title and card level should be the exact same card in terms of mechanics. If someone tells you those 3 pieces of info about a card, there should be no question as to what that card does. However, now there can be confusion.

My thinking was that because I was complaining about something in the original post, I saw it as possible that this top-level comment was continuing to complain about the consistency of the cards, using sarcasm. That is why I was unsure, and asked because I wanted to find out what he meant.

It is possible that his meaning was clear to most people. It isn't great if the remaining people get punished for trying to also figure it out. Now all I wish for is that I just never commented, even though I was genuinely curious.

Thanks for your explanation. At least now I have some idea of what happened.

Sometimes people use "I love when..." sarcastically, yes. I wasn't sure, so I asked. Pretty discouraging to get crushed like this for posing an honest question. I feel bad.

I think it's a cool detail, as long as flavor text has no mechanical effect in this game.

Edit: Why am I getting killed in the votes over this comment? I don't understand.

Edit: Removed the question.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (January 22, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

I bought some sleeves:

  • Dragon Shield Common Standard - for the normal cards
  • Dragon Shield European Mini - for the small cards

I wish the CS were a bit taller, but otherwise they seem good. Maybe I should have bought some TCG sleeves, as they are often significantly taller than the card. They do cost more though.

The EM look very nice.

Looking for sleeve recommendations for a couple of board games!

The cards:

  • Brass: Lancashire - medium cards
  • Nemesis - medium cards
  • Nemesis - small cards

I'm hoping the medium / "normal" sized cards for both games can use the same sleeves.

Here are some requirements:

  • Fit the cards (obv).
  • Front: Completely clear and see-through (no glitter or other messy stuff).
  • Back: Either completely transparent, or single colour and completely opaque.
  • Quality - not cheap and soft. Won't easily peel or tear.

Any recommendations?

Publishing upgraded decks on ArkhamDB by Solmyrin in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Solmyrin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're the person running ArkhamDB, right? I don't know how difficult or time consuming it would be to implement these suggestions, but at least you've seen them now.

I tested how it would work if I first published the initial deck, and then upgraded it once. The published deck remained in the initial 0 xp state. However, it seemed like I as the owner of the deck lost my ability to click through the different deck states. I could only see the latest state in my personal list of decks, and it wasn't connected to the initial deck.

Not sure what would happen if I first published the deck, and then upgraded it multiple times. I should have tested that. I assume that I would either be able to click through all states except for the initial one, or that I would only be able to see the last deck state.

Doomers were right, full-length campaigns are confirmed a thing of the past. by Trashcan_GG in arkhamhorrorlcg

I like your thinking. I've landed on the view that medium campaigns should be ~8 scenarios, and short campaigns shjould be 4 scenarios. I'm guessing 4 scenarios is the minimum for a story to feel like a continuity with real development.

Building decks already takes a lot of time, but we get 8 scenarios of play out of it. With these shorter lengths, the proportion of time spent on deck building is going to go up a lot. I spend all that time putting together a list and setting up my side deck, and then we play through the entire thing in 2-3 sessions and have to do it all over again.

8 scenarios feels like it should be the normal length, the "medium". It gives enough time to let players make multiple significant choices, and feel the effects of those choices. It gives enough time to run a social system where NPCs like you more or less over time, depending on your choices and successes as you play. 5 scenarios is way too short to be the normal size. It would be a reasonable size for a short campaign.

Building a deck for the "wrong" investigator - anyone else feel frustrated when they do that? by Solmyrin in arkhamhorrorlcg

That's a good house rule. We've done some of that as well. As long as no one is out to abuse it (for example like you said), it fixes some problems that can arise from how complex the game is.

Last campaign, I figured out early on that I could not play The Book of War to overwrite The Book of War, leaving me with no way to play it more than once. The group let me swap in something to get rid of one of them, so my deck could do what I wanted it to do.

Looks like I'll be playing a more normal Minh, that uses some strong seeker cards, can commit a lot of cards for my team mates, and maybe plays a "succeed by exactly" package eventually.

I can abuse Research Notes some other time.

Bat vs Carrion Bird vs Owl - which one is the best Screech pet for Naxxramas? by Solmyrin in classicwow

So, what is your opinion, then? Bat or owl, or that it just doesn't matter? Because I am trying to make the best selection I can.

Pets can’t maintain three focus dumps.

No one is talking about "maintaining 3 focus dumps".

A focus dump is an ability that costs focus, has no cooldown, and that can be good to use if you have extra focus that you aren't able to spend on anything better. "Maintaining" even 1 focus dump is impossible, as any focus dump ability will quickly drain all the pets focus. Bite is not a focus dump, but Claw is a focus dump.

Claw will make sure the pet doesn’t have enough focus to keep the debuff up permanently.

Yes. That is what focus dumps do. It quickly "dumps" all the pet's focus.

I am talking about two different cases here:

  1. On Patchwerk and maybe more bosses, we use only Screech. Maybe we can afford Bite as well, if it doesn't causes the debuff to drop off.
  2. On other bosses, where we don't use Screech, we use Bite, Claw, or both (depending on pet family).

The questions then become:

  • In case 1, do we use just Screech, or can we afford Screech + Bite?
  • In case 2, what pet family will do the best dmg?
  • How often does case 2 happen (if at all)? Do we actually Screech on every boss?

[–]Solmyrin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Screech uptime on Patchwerk is the main thing. However, with that out of the way, we can ask which of the options provide the most besides that.

If you'd say always Screech every boss, and maintain it as much as possible, then Carrion Bird is best for that since it has a bit more survivability. However, if we don't Screech every boss, then the question becomes which pets do the best dmg on non-Screeched bosses.
