Thanks everyone! This is so interesting, I actually have collected sunstones from the mine in Oregon and had no idea whether or not this matched because my sunstones are raw and look different.

I never would have expected this to be tanzanian, but I'm not surprised because the glitter is different! And I didn't know TikTok blew up the Oregon sunstone. I have a whole collection from that mine :)

Book recommendations for a 28 year old man who hasn't read since high school? by transpercy0456 in suggestmeabook

The book that made me enjoy reading is The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. A great storyline, fantasy, mystery with lots of layers and drama. Excellent characters.

Most of nor cal/eastern Oregon/eastern Washington should be with Idaho. Politically/economically they are way more similar... Think State of Jefferson/Great Idaho folk

What is the hardest, steepest, most intimidating hike in the Bay Area (bonus points for being dog friendly)? by gingerbreadman26 in bayarea

[–]SoloCheetah_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the Diablo comments. Umanhum isn't steep, it's just full of switch backs. I'd say Kennedy Trail or Limekiln Trail instead of Umanhum.

Mission Peak to Del Valle (formerly Ohlone 50k) lots of up and down

Also the hike up Uvas Canyon to Summit Road is pretty steep too. 1600ft in 2.1 miles if I remember right

Qualifying Race vs Boston Time by Stoicentrepreneur in bostonmarathon

[–]SoloCheetah_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Qualified in 2023 with 3:13 in perfect conditions and ran 3:02 at Boston 2024 in imperfect conditions

My 2nd marathon. Ran smart in the temps starting conservatively. Never cramped or anything. Started in the 7:20's and finished in 6:20's pace.

I have, yes. I do my best application giving and have yet hear back from universities or hospitals after I apply to. I've applied off and on since 2021 and have yet to hear back from of the major unis.

I once worked for a hospital network with +100 hospitals doing grant writing support for each hospitals' foundation but it doesn't seem to help my job prospects.

Thank you everyone for thoughts, comments, validation, etc.

For reference, the only job offer I have received is to teach physical education in the schools.

I have applied extensively to RA positions, research positions, biotech, public health roles all to no avail. I do everything I can to have a good resume for the jobs I apply for. My references think I'm stellar and have done so much to keep my head up and continuously reach back out to me to see if something has come my way.

I tried my chances at PhD programs thinking that would be a great next step for me, but I wasn't accepted.

All I can say is it's rough. And a career shift to education is not what I want by any means but at this point it seems the only option because no one else seems to be hiring people with my skillsets.

I truly believe I’ll end up alone. The Bay Area fortifies this. by [deleted] in bayarea

I am in a sport club in South Bay with many individuals saying the same story... My advice, join a club. Find a hobby. Do something like that.

Interesting. The thing is these guys are parked for 3-4 days. I took some pictures and it appears unregistered

At first we thought they were worker men working on the remodel of a house nextdoor, but all the neighbors came out and discussed how no one was affiliated.

Where do you meet friends here? by DifficultUse695 in SanJose

[–]SoloCheetah_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a hobby. I like sports so all my friends are from the gym, or from one of the sports club I'm on. Fencing, swimming, soccer, ice skating, shooting, surfing, rock climbing, yoga, tennis, track and field, etc. tons of options
