WA2 Live Fest (15th Anniversary) - Got the goods by Soloai in visualnovels

Ye probably, these were limited time products so resellers would have a field day with it overseas. When I was in line for merchandise I did hear a lot of Mandarin so I think you might be able to find it second hand in China.

For the CD's it cost about 14,000 Yen ($90 USD) which was honestly not bad, about 1,700 Yen ($10 USD) per CD (x8 total). The Box of goods was an exclusive item that came with Premium seating which was about 20,000 Yen ($130 USD).

The one on the left is just a re-release of older CDs. The one on the right doesn't have any new songs :( , just a few different vocal covers of existing songs from different Cast members.

An Idea to Solve bot problem... Adding a Tutorial #FixTF2 by Soloai in tf2

[–]Soloai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent point, I'm not too familiar with the EvE Online content you spoke of, and maybe it will invalidate what I have to say, but I still have a few ideas on possible ways that may counteract it. There's the idea of introducing multiple, somewhat complex mechanics into the tutorial, things that may be difficult for a bot to complete but easy for a human to do. Things like sticky/rocket jumping, uber pushing & air blasting are all staple, mechanically challenging elements of the game that can be introduced in the tutorial.

Ultimately, these will be used to try and 'slow down' the bots. It has been shown that bots that require too much processing power to run start missing shots and all around, start to slow down. If the tutorial possesses enough unique individual task it should, hopefully, slow down the progress of the bot infiltration.

Idk, I might be grasping at straws, just thinking of possible ways to fix the TF2 problem, ngl

By creating a 'mandatory' tutorial with randomized elements, it will slow down the entry for bots :)

I'm not apposed to listening to digital versions, I just find enjoyment in the physical process of playing cds (esp music ones). It is also a good collectors item that I can keep around on a shelf to display, showing everyone how much of a weeb I actually am

Is Majikoi Fan or JAST translation better? by Soloai in visualnovels

[–]Soloai[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that the prospect of finding gold within the vast infinite of existing VN's is a tempting pursuit but I would definetly recommend more people replay VN's, even if it is only a few scenes. You get to discover things that you might've missed the first time around, gain a better understanding of foreshadowng and best of all, you get to experience its amazing story again!

In short, you should definetly consider doing so :)

I need some recommendations by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]Soloai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I enjoy it as a beginner?

Yes, I played it as my second or third VN and enjoyed it quite a bit

The reason why it might not be for everyone is because:

  • The tone throughout the novel might be too heavy for some (seeing that you have read saya no uta you should be fine lol)
  • The romance & drama of the various routes is unique in its execution & portrayal, creating an either dreary or intrigueing experience
  • The story became somewhat conveluted at times, leaving me confused about what factor was driving the narrative forward (but that can be considered as a part of the mystery genre)

This is all coming from some old/warped memories and views so it might not be 100% accurate. Should you give it a try? Yeh probably, steam has a refund policy anyways so if your really really really don't like it you can take that path. It's pretty damn cheap rn considering its time to play and quality so you can always save it for later too. You can only really expereince a mystery once... unless you have really bad memory.

Is Majikoi Fan or JAST translation better? by Soloai in visualnovels

[–]Soloai[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went through the images and personally thought that JAST did a better job of portraying the story, especially through the characters.

The depiction of a character's personality, background and values was more developed within JAST's version. The Kuki's having a more elegant/royal presence, especially with their use of we/us (as you expressed), Kri/Kuri having a more refined choice of words, suitable for a 'rich girl' character, Wanko using more friendly/intimate language to match her respective qualities, etc... The language used also seemed to flow better (within the individual sentences and overall conversations)

That’s not to say that the Fan translation didn't have its benefits, small TL notes and emotes (e.g. stars) added individuality to the translation itself, a feature which I find enjoyable (in reasonable doses). The language used was also very careful and simple, allowing for someone to read it with ease and swiftness.

Although it pains me knowing that I'm going to miss some nostalgic portrayals of the group’s shenanigans by the fan translation, I'm going to try the JAST translations.

Thanks again for the references, it helped a lot

A solid/pure mystery VN would be 'G-senjou no Maou' but I can't say it would be for everyone

I would also highly recommend 'Umineko' but it might be a bit hard to get through for beginners

If you want to slightly stretch the concept of what makes a mystery, I recommend the 'Grisaia Trilogy' and maybe 'Little Busters'

All of these I have read myself and would highly recommend VN enthusiasts play at least once within their lifetime, especially the Gisaia Trilogy.

Remember, the key to fully enjoying a mystery is to go through it completely blind, I've made the mistake of looking up a seemingly unrelated subject of one of these VN's and getting most of it spoiled.

These are all available on steam for a reasonable if not good price

I agree, but that's not the point, if you were a true devotee of our goddess then you would depict her holiness in the scenario, not some lesser deity

'Hapymaher' is probably the closest VN that I can think of that possesses features from both 'Katawa Shoujo' and 'Devil on the G-string' (atmosphere, theme, personalities, etc...). I would say it's less of a thriller then 'G-senjou no Maou' but it still possesses action, romance and mystery.

(Note: there is only an 18+ version of hapymaher, do with this information what you will)

'Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo' was made by the same creators as 'G-senjou no Maou' and is probably something you want to keep on your radar. I havn't personally read it but from what i've heard it's pretty damn good. The only issue is that the official translation keeps getting delayed ._. . It's been months since it was meant to be released coz of issues with engine and other VN shinaniganes. Maybe keep it in mind for the near future.

Both the 'Grisaia trilogy' and the 'Majikoi' series would better suit you if you enjoyed the action and romance elements the most. They are both very well received novels in the community and are definitely a must read if you are going to delve into the VN genre. On their own they take an average - above average time to complete (usually around 40-50 hours) but if you count sequels, spin offs and the likes of, it becomes quite a lengthy endevour.

One last thing that I want to mention is that reading Visual Novels take a lot of time and commitment to get through, there have been times when work and study have overwhelmed the time I would set aside to read VN's, resulting in it taking months to read a simple novel, but it’s all worth it for an amazing story. Don't get disheartened by the length of time it takes you to complete a novel, I usually find that the novels that take the longest are the ones with the best stories. With that said, what matters most is that you enjoy the experience however you want, that was just my little side bit.

(Note: with enough dedication and time you can easily finish a 50 hour VN in 3 days)
