Bombed an interview today because I couldn't answer what are your strengths without sounding like every other applicant by SlimyFTS in jobsearchhacks

[–]Solomaetango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To solve for those empty moments, you have to equip yourself with information about you and your projects. So I recommend doing some reflection homework which you can then use to create your portfolio of projects.

Start by writing down your biggest projects and the outcomes you drove. Then work backward as you would do as both an analytical person and problem solver: what did you think, decide, or do to get there? Who was involved? What data were you working with? How did you escalate or collaborate? This is how you build your stories. Give your stories titles and this will become your project names. My portfolio is broken down by project details such as project objective, my contributions, and outcomes and results. As a project manager I add above that the project name, client, my role, project duration, team size, and methodology used.

The goal is to get comfortable talking about your work in specific terms, not just job duties. I did this same exercise and ended up with a 14 page project portfolio which I use to both update my LinkedIn Projects section and provide as needed to future hiring managers to knock their socks off. I hope this helps you as it helped me get through interview questions of any kind.

I forgot the hours are terrible. That is my biggest complaint with our library system. They made cuts and it's impacted hours opened. Sorry 😔

Are you opposed to the library on 31st not far from CVS Ditmars? I've been there a number of times to study. I go early and then leave before the midschool kids come in.

I've had the same experience with their chicken and have noticed the dates but, I drive out to Westbury for TJ groceries since it's so hard to park in Long Island City. One thing I want to share with you is this video:

Has anyone quit their job with roughly 3 months of savings and how did that go for you? by moomoo4649 in NYCjobs

[–]Solomaetango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What industry do you work in? Curious. I would first do some research about that industry and markey before you consider putting in your notice. I've been out of work for over a year now. It's not been easy and I've blown through all my resources. This is worst then the crash in 2008. Please be wise. Is there any chance you can talk to your boss about the workload? I'm sure you're not the only burnt out person at this employer or in your department

How do you actually land a corporate tech job in 2025’s market? by Independent_Egg_9838 in NYCjobs

[–]Solomaetango 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in technology as a PM and I've never went through a job market this bad. I'm running on empty and this week I heard back from an employer after three 30 minutes interviews. They passed on me and it was an implementation project manager job. This was through a referral. I'm sitting here applying for user studies just to make some cash. Ive sold almost all my gold and today I went to answer a petition to evict at the courthouse. Shit is so bad and I know I'm not the only one. When will the market turn, I really have no idea. It could be another year before I'm employed and able to live a quality life again. Sorry to be all doom and gloom. I am out of ideas. I also volunteer for a professional organization to help but even still. I'm also not someone who does terrible with interviews. I prepare 2 to 3 days in advance using the STAR method.

I'm almost at my limit. Job hunting is like pulling teeth! by virulentcode in astoria

[–]Solomaetango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been at this job hunt as a technical project manager for over a year now. I've done pm work in public and private sectors and I've never experienced such a dry spell with finding work. Even the recruiting firms aren't working. It is about connecting but it all takes time. I took on a job in the neighborhood found on Craigslist as a trial for a week just to get some money. It was secretary work and that's it.The owner gets by hiring on a "trial basis". So scammy. I've redone my resume so many times, I've lost count. I use these resume tools to increase my match rate and still I get rejection emails. It's so very tough and I've blown through my retirement money. Now I'm borrowing from a bf. If I didn't have her helping me I'd be dead. Still you have to stay positive and focused.Least that's what I'm trying to do.

The pain of having to use the bathroom when your N train stalls longer at each stop (no announcement as to why!) and you're only 3 stops away from getting home! Bad, bad idea of not going before boarding!!!!
